CSA's Got Talent! at 7:30 p.m. in the Meeting House
Everyone is invited to attend an Open Forum on Thursday, July 22nd at 7:30 p.m. in the Assembly Building. In addition to several important topics on the agenda, this is your opportunity to bring forth ideas and concerns to the Board of Trustees. We hope you will attend. We need an active and informed community.
The Church Service this Sunday will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Meeting House led by Rev. Neta Pringle.  It is Citation Sunday. Adult Bible Class will meet at 9:30 a.m. in the South Room of the Meeting House.
You can view a recording of the church service from July 11 led by Rev. Jonathan Knight here.
Sunday, July 25 will be Celebration of Life Sunday, honoring births and deaths in the CSA family in both 2020 and 2021. If you have not yet shared your family's news, please add it to the Family News book near the Assembly office, or complete the online form by July 22nd.
Join the One Beautiful Thing Art Show
You are invited to contribute an item you consider beautiful to an Art Show to be held on July 21st in the Assembly Building, so our community can collectively experience the restorative and connecting power of beauty. It could be an object, recorded sound, a picture, a piece of art, something old and cherished - let your intuitive creativity be your guide.
Exhibits will be collected on July 16-20, and returned after the Art Show on July 21st. Drop off your item at the Stroben cottage at 624 Edwards Ave. with your name and a sentence or two about why you think the item is beautiful.  Questions?  Contact Lindsey Alper at (619) 888-6877 or Lisa Stroben Gates at (858) 353-2883.

CSA Waterfront Committee Updates:  Please note that watercraft (including non-motorized) being brought to the CSA beach must be washed prior to being launched anywhere into Crystal Lake if operated in another watershed in the previous 10 days.  For more details, please go to the CLWA website to read about this Michigan law.  The CLWA’s boat wash and launch is located on M-115 at Mollineaux Rd (the address is 5739 DNR Boat Ramp Service Rd, Frankfort).  There are other public boat launch sites at the Beulah public beach, Frankfort’s Bellows Beach, and the ends of Esplanade Ct. and Marquette Ct. (off M-22, north of the Crystal View).

Additional kayak/canoe and SUP storage racks have been installed on the CSA's Crystal Lake beach, as well as paths leading from the storage areas down towards the water's edge, to help you navigate this popular area on the beach.

The following five candidates have agreed to be nominated at the CSA Annual Meeting on July 31st to serve as Trustees from 2021 - 2024: Debbie Allbright, Bill Fisk, Joshua Knight, Lorry Spitzer, Jennifer Rodes Swetland.  Open this link to learn more about them.

Meet Evan Hammon,
CSA's Forest Care Fellow
As the climate changes and more invasive species find their way to CSA’s forests, an urgent question arises: what can we do to keep our forests thriving over the years? That’s where Evan Hammon, our new Forest Care Fellow, comes in - and his expertise and connection to the area make him the perfect man for the job.
Evan was born and raised just around the corner in Frankfort, and he got his degree in Environmental Science at the University of Michigan. Though he only joined the CSA community earlier this summer, he knows his way around. “I’ve always loved the forest here,” he says with a glance out the window. “I feel really connected to the environment - the lake, the forest, the beaches, everything.” His job gives him the opportunity to understand the forest and everything to do with it - both the conservation measures done in the past, and the threats of the future. It’s important business, and as time passes, he hopes to share this information with the CSA so they can be aware of the changes happening right in their backyards.
He doesn’t have to be the only one getting involved, though; Evan is also leading plenty of activities to help the community get to know their forests better. One of his most prominent activities are his forest walks, where he guides a group through the forests to point out important and interesting things (join him every Tuesday inside the Assembly Building at 10am). On Tuesday, July 20th he will host a Trail Maintenance Volunteer Day -meet outside the CSA office at 9am to rake, trim, and refresh the existing walking trail along Alden Ave to Lake Michigan. He’s also developing a restoration guide on how homeowners can keep their property healthy, and he offers the opportunity for him to come survey individual plots of land after the forest walks have concluded.
You can contact Evan at (231) 651 9769 or evanhammon@gmail.com for more information about our forests. Also, see his introduction video here.
The CSA Arts & Crafts Fair will be held on Wednesday, July 28th. Workers are still needed - please sign up on the front porch. Exhibit booth spaces are still available. All proceeds benefit CSA programs and our local community.
Drop off times for Cottage Treasures donations: Friday 7/23  from 9am-4pm, Saturday 7/24 from 2-4pm, Sunday 7/25 from 12-4pm, Monday  7/26 from 9am-4pm. Outdoor items should be put behind the kitchen to the north side on the exterior of the building. Other items should be put in the kitchen.
Silent Auction donations drop off on Friday 7/23 - Sunday 7/25 (no later) at Laura Millar's house at 607 South Shore Rd.  Contact Laura with questions at thevinegrp@gmail.com or (678) 640-3638.
Additional Information about the fair available here.
