What do Americans really think about what is going on in the world? What do they find important? Author Chris Register decided to find out. Setting out on his touring bicycle, he is peddling solo, camping along the way, through all 50 states in 10 marathon rides over the regions of our country. Along the way, he interviewed people from all walks of life to find out what is important and meaningful to them. Are we really so divided? What Chris has found may surprise you, inspire you, or at least help you understand other people that call our nation home. Join the New Ulm Public Library on Friday, August 6 at 4:00 PM learn about Chris' first journey he took across the Midwest including the people and places he visited as well as the adventure of riding across America solo by bicycle. This free program is made possible by a grant provided by the Traverse des Sioux Library Cooperative and funded with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

Staff Picks
Last Summer at the Golden Hotel by Elyssa Friedland
Two families, three generations, one iconic but aging resort hotel in the Catskills and one offer to sell to a development company. Will nostalgia and memories win over common sense and cold hard cash? The crown jewel of the “Jewish Riviera,” the Golden Hotel was built in 1960 during the era of luxurious summer getaways. Now, the other behemoth bungalow hotels have closed and the Goldman and Weingold families gather one last time to vote on whether to sell or refurbish. Suddenly, memories and old issues (good and bad) come flooding back to muddy the waters. This is a light family drama in a beautiful mountain setting – a perfect summer read! - Sue
Wendy, Darling by A.C. Wise
Wending Darling is all grown up, but she has never been able to banish her time in Neverland from her mind. It haunts her, especially when her brothers seem to have forgotten their adventures with Peter Pan completely. When Peter returns looking for Wendy he finds a grown woman. Disgusted that Wendy would dare grow up, he kidnaps Wendy’s daughter instead. Despite her fear, Wendy must follow them to Neverland, rescue her daughter, and confront the growing darkness at the center of the island, perhaps at the heart of Peter himself. I loved this take on Peter Pan and how the author twists classic elements of the fairy tale to tell a much darker version of a story that has always made me a little uneasy. – April
