July 5th Beach Clean Up
After a night of celebrating on the 4th of July, over 60 community members registered at the BBWARM booth on July 5th to help clean up debris on Birch Bay beaches. The day was hot and sunny but people of all ages stopped by the booth to grab some coffee, brownies, gloves, and garbage bags. Volunteers began the clean up early in the morning, and the effort was still going strong by mid-day. Over 2 dumpsters were filled with trash left behind from the festivities, totaling 4.85 tons! This yearly cleanup effort was successful again for the Birch Bay community, thanks to all of the volunteers that worked together to keep the beach beautiful and safe for people and wildlife!
A Day at the Beach Volunteer Appreciation Event
Thanks to all who were able to join us for a beautiful day at the beach on June 12th! Over 75 people stopped by the BBWARM booth and all our current and newly-enrolled volunteers walked away with a popsicle and cool new Watershed Watcher hat as a thank you. Local naturalists also took many groups out on the beach for low tide exploration and found amazing critters.

We are always looking for new volunteers! Watershed Watchers help protect water quality by reporting pollution, keeping storm drains clear of debris, and picking up litter.  Fill out the contact form on our website for more information.

If you haven't seen it, check out this great story on your fellow Watershed Watchers Deb and Dave Hiller!

Pay It Forward! Help Stop Poo Pollution.
Oops! You sat down to enjoy a view and didn’t want to hold “that bag” in your lap. But, as you continued on your walk “that bag” was forgotten. Maybe a neighbor helped you out and got the bag to the trash.  If you forget, you can pay it forward and help someone else out.  Scoop it, Bag it, Trash it! Sign the "scoop the poop pledge" at whatcomcounty.us/scooppoop
