Colourful visitors flock
to the City Centre

Mackay City Centre has its share of rooftop birds – lorikeets, doves, pigeons and pee wees – but it’s never seen anything like what’s flying in this week.

Six giant Gouldian Finches, complete with party hats, will fly into Mackay this Saturday as part of the Mackay Festival of Arts.

These colourful birds will be perched atop Artspace Mackay, Bluewater Quay, Bluewater Lagoon, Rydges Mackay, Caneland Central and Mackay Showgrounds until July 25.

The femme fatale
you can’t forget

The MECC and Opera Australia presents Bizet’s Carmen as part of this year’s Mackay Festival of Arts.

In Bizet’s famous opera, Carmen sings her sensual Habanera and lures Don José into her world. He gives up everything to follower her. But Carmen’s wandering eye has already found a new lover: the dashing bullfighter Escamillo.

Experience the thrilling Spanish colour and rhythms of Bizet’s vibrant score with Opera Australia’s singers, live chamber orchestra and a children’s chorus drawn from the local community.

Hear classics such as the Habanera and the Toreador Song just as Bizet meant them — loud, live and completely unamplified. Coming to Mackay as part of this month’s Festival of Arts program, make sure you secure your tickets to experience the thrilling Spanish colour and rhythms of Bizet.
