ISSUE 2021:03 -  JULY 2021

A message from the Board

July is the traditional vacation month in Sweden, when people head off to the summer cottage or sail around the archipelago. However for a cricketer, it is often the month when cricket tends to ramp up to full speed as we make the most of the fleeting summer.

This past month the club too has been going at full speed. We have held our annual youth cricket festival. The Disciplinary Committee has a new member, Ayyappa. We have distributed close to 150 uniforms. We held an extraordinary meeting and changed our constitution. Planning for our T20 Smash tournament is underway. The list goes on, and we did all this while we have 11 teams playing and training cricket.

It is a fantastic effort by everyone in the club. We are grateful for all your fantastic contributions to the club whether as a player, parent or supporter. And we hope that you all also get some time to relax with friends and family this summer too.

European Cricket Series & the Swedish Cup

In 2021 the format for Swedish Cup has been changed, so now the winner of am initial group qualified to a regional European Cricket Series,  the winner of which will move to a National Series. Eventually the overall winner then goes on to represent Sweden in the 2022 European series held in Spain.

If you're confused, then you are not the only one. So perhaps the simple thing to know is that Stockholm CC won their group in round one with 2 solid wins over Kista SC and Ludvika CC, and is now playing in the next round.

The European Cricket Series (Stockholm) starts on 19-July in Norsborg, with all matches being live streamed.  Check out all the details on ECN Cricket.

Ungdoms Cricket Festival

After a covid-19 imposed break in 2020, this year we could once again host Stockholm's premier tournament for youth cricket.

In 2021 there was a slight change to the structure of the Festival, opening it up to more age groups given the constraints on travel to Stockholm for teams from around Sweden.  In the U13 age group there were teams from DIF, Kista SC, Stockholm Vikings and Alby Zalmi, who played were hard ball matches on one day and semi-hard (incrediball) ball matches on another.  In the U15 age group 2 teams from Stockholm CC played 30-over matches.

Thanks to all the parents and volunteers you made the weekend a wonderful celebration of cricket.

Honorary Membership and a New Constitution

On 5-July the clubs membership approved a new constitution that introduces the ability to recognise service to the club by individuals by having Honorary Members.

Senior Men's Cricket Update

With just over a month of league matches being played all the teams have now played a few matches and the compeition is tough, and it looks like NRR will be a deciding factor in determining the final positions.

In Division 1, where the club has 2 teams, Stockholm CC Warriors are in second equal place (along with 5 other teams)  with 2 wins from 3 matches,  while the Stockholm CC Gladiators are in 8ths place with one win from 3.

In Division 2  Stockholm CC Challengers are in 2nd equal place with 2 wins from 3.
