Two upcoming sessions presented by U-M Research Development will provide an overview and best practices for developing strong proposals for federal instrumentation grants. At each webinar, faculty also will describe their experiences as awardees and reviewers of these programs:

Funding highlight: Sony research awards
The Sony Research Award Program provides funding for cutting-edge academic research and helps build a collaborative relationship between faculty and Sony researchers. With awards up to $150,000 per year for each accepted proposal, both the Faculty Innovation Award and Focused Research Award create new opportunities for faculty to engage in pioneering research that could drive new technologies, industries and the future.
- Faculty Innovation Award: up to $100K, for research in broad areas of interest, including information technology, devices and materials, and digital health
- Focused Research Award: up to $150K, for collaborations with Sony researchers on specific areas of focus (click through for opportunities)

Expand research networks at the 2021 NSF Convergence Accelerator Expo
NSF invites researchers to attend the 2021 Convergence Accelerator Expo, July 28-29. This virtual event is an opportunity to see use-inspired research solutions funded by the NSF Convergence Accelerator. Last year’s inaugural event drew more than 1,500 attendees from academia, industry, non-profit, and government across 25 countries; this year’s event is expected to be even larger.
During the event, researchers will have the opportunity to connect with funded research teams and see live solution demos every 15 minutes across five research tracks, including AI-Driven Data Sharing & Modeling, Future of Work, Open Knowledge Networks, Quantum Technology and Eco-Manufacturing.
Expo 2021 is open to the public and media, but NSF encourages researchers, innovat ors, and tech and business practitioners from academia, industry, government, non-profits, and other communities to attend.

ARIS calls for 2022 Fellows
The Center for Advancing Research Impact in Society (ARIS) fellows program is for professionals, researchers, faculty, educators, graduate students and others working to advance research impact practice.
The goal of the program is to increase the quality and availability of scholarship and resources about research impacts through two types of projects; projects should 1) synthesize existing scholarly work to package evidence into easily applied and digestible tools for the research community to improve research-impacts design and practice; and/or 2) small-scale innovative scholarship that explores new horizons and advances knowledge about research impact practices. Both types of projects require recipients to create products such as guidance documents, white papers, scholarly articles, decision support tools, multimedia supports, instructive videos, or other creative or scholarly outputs.
Fellows are provided three types of support over the course of approximately one year:
- Participation in a community of fellows working to advance research impacts;
- Peer-review and editing of products under development along with publishing/production and dissemination support;
- A small stipend to offset the cost of fellowship work and/or fellowship-related travel.
ARIS will recognize the work of fellows on the Center website, at the annual Summit, and with a letter to your organizational leadership.

Apply for MICHR's Study Team Working Group
Are you a study team member (faculty or staff) who does research on health or medicine or works in a non-MICHR research support office? MICHR's Education and Mentoring Group is now accepting applications for the Study Team Workforce Development Working Group.
Apply to serve on the Working Group to share your knowledge, experience an d skills related to study team training and education at U-M. Applications are due September 10.

M-REACH for community-engaged research
Michigan Research Engaging the Academy and Community in Health (M-REACH) is a centralized hub for investigators conducting and participating in community-engaged research across the state of Michigan. M-REACH was founded through a collaboration between the Community Engagement and the Design and Innovation Core in MICHR.
In community-engaged research (CEnR), academic institutions and communities work togeth er throughout the entire research process. The CEnR model helps to ensure that the research is relevant to the community and informs practices and policies specific to the needs of residents.
M-REACH provides resources to U-M researchers and the local community to support CEnR projects. This includes training in CEnR best practices, events, webinars and networking. The M-REACH personalized profile allows researchers to connect with others with similar interests. Personalized consultations are also available. Take a product tour here.
