Happy July, <<First Name>> !

from Romulus, NY.

Exciting news!

I was awarded the Fielding Fellowship (full ride + yearly stipend) to attend the Simon Business School at the University of Rochester. I will be focusing on fitness entrepreneurship and will continue working with virtual clients. Movement Lab is canceled for the foreseeable future, as I adjust to student life.

Mindset:

Instead of all or nothing, always something.

Nutrition:

Food is not just fuel; it’s also culture. How can you incorporate your culture’s food traditions (key ingredients, spices, flavor profiles, signature dishes) on your wellness journey?

App to try:

Noom! It is a psychology-based, nutrition/mindful eating program. I recently graduated from their program and found that it works! To take full advantage, go through all the articles that the app gives you, until you hit the daily limit (takes about 10min).

Key word:

Hardaholic: the idea that if something isn’t hard that you aren’t doing the right thing.

Quote:

“Honor the space between no longer and not yet.” - Nancy Levin

Movement Practice:

Shaking! It helps to release muscular tension and calms the nervous system. If you’ve never tried it before, start with 2 minutes and work your way up to 20. Plant your feet on the ground, hips-width distance, relax your shoulders, then bend and straighten (but not fully) your knees repeatedly.

Sensory Practice:

Upgrade your shower into a nourishing, embodied experience.

  1. TASTE: Make a cup of warm tea. Bring it with you into the bathroom. Notice the flavor in your mouth and the temperature when you swallow.

  2. SIGHT: Dim the lights. Light some candles.

  3. SMELL: Burn some incense/sage/palo santo.

  4. SOUND: Play music that feels relaxing/heart opening.

  5. TOUCH: Take a shower. Feel the warmth of the water on your skin. When you dry yourself off, feel the texture of the towel on your body. As you putting on lotion/oils, notice the healing power of your own touch.
