RECOGNITION OF LEONARDO’S OUTSTANDING PEER REVIEWERS
In 2017 we commenced a quarterly recognition of exceptional peer reviewers in our network. This month we extend our gratitude and congratulations to the following for their in-depth and deeply constructive feedback on papers under consideration for publication:
 
Ricardo Arias is an experimental musician, sound artist, and professor at the Department of Art at the Universidad de los Andes. 

Ingrid Koenig is Artist in Residence at TRIUMF, Canada’s particle accelerator centre and co-organizes processes of collaboration between artists and physicists. 

Silvia Laurentiz is an Associate Professor in the Department of Fine Arts and in the Post-Graduate Program in Visual Arts at the School of Communication and Arts of the University of São Paulo.

Eryk Salvaggio is an interdisciplinary writer, researcher, and artist exploring intersections between cultural, social, ecological and technological systems.
 
 
NEA ART + TECHNOLOGY FIELD SCAN
Leonardo Senior Program Manager Vanessa Chang was one of ten practitioners commissioned to contribute companion essays to the National Endowment for the Arts’ recently-released report, the culmination of a two-year research initiative, “Tech as Art: Supporting Artists Who Use Technology as a Creative Medium.” Her essay, “Recoding the Master’s Tools: Artists Remake Systems of Oppression and Extraction in Technology,” discusses the landscape of media art, toolmaking, open-source and capitalism. UCLA SCI | ART LAB + STUDIO PRESENTS
2021: THE POWER OF THE INVISIBLE AND INAUDIBLE

25 July–6 August 2021

UCLA Sci|Art Lab + Studio is a remote summer program for high school students around the world to learn how scientific and creative practices can be used as complementary tools for innovation and design. This year, Sci|Art Lab + Studio will focus on the nanoscale entities and vibrational frequencies that surround and enfold us. The plan is to look deeper into how the invisible and inaudible affect the body, the mind, the planet and universe, as well as how complex and important these interrelationships are. CALL FOR APPLICATION: NABI ONLINE HACKATHON

Nabi Hackathons, designed to combine hackathon culture with creative workshops, are an open creative platform where creators from various fields and backgrounds gather to propose ideas, create prototypes, and share the outcomes. OPEN CALL: ONLINE REACT RESIDENCY

P21 Gallery is excited to announce a second round OPEN CALL for the Fall 2021 Online reACT program! Emerging artists aged 30 & under are invited to submit artwork focusing on digital media or on artwork that can be represented well online, dedicated to or inspired by the Middle East & Arab world. ⁠The online residency will last for one month and includes a small artist stipend. Your artwork will be displayed on the P21 Gallery website, along with the opportunity for you to host supplemental events around your online exhibition including: Instagram takeovers & livestreams, virtual artist talks, themed webinars, filmed performances or any other online activities that will help give your audience context of your artwork. CALL FOR ENTRIES: 25TH JAPAN MEDIA ARTS FESTIVAL

The Japan Media Arts Festival Executive Committee is now accepting entries for the 25th Japan Media Arts Festival. All artists around the world, without distinction as to professional, amateur, independent, or commercial, are invited to submit their works. From each division, the jury committee will select winners of the Grand Prizes, Excellence Awards, Social Impact Award, New Face Awards, and U-18 Award. Each of the winners from the four divisions will receive a trophy and prize money up to 1,000,000 yen, and also win an opportunity to present their works at the Exhibition of Award-winning Works in Tokyo.
