Oil Mist is generated in the crankcase by the constant vaporization and condensation of lube oil reacting with a hot spot caused by worn out parts or insufficient lubrication.
This resultant oil mist develops a larger surface area and a reduced flash point, increasing the possibility of it igniting and causing a catastrophic crankcase explosion.
When these increasing levels of oil mist are detected, the Oil Mist Detectors send an alarm signal allowing the engine to either be slowed down or stopped.

The air pressure adjustment procedure is vital to ensuring the optimum performance of your OMD.
|
|
Air pressure adjustment procedure:
1. Connect air pipe adapter and pressure gauge (#151800) to control/inspection cover.
2. Loosen locknuts of the pressure regulator (#151072)
3. Use setscrew to adjust to the recommended value of 60 mmWC (manual p.30/50).
4. Tighten locknuts and remove pressure gage and air pipe connector.
5. Re-install and tighten cover nut (#365454) with gasket (#365281).
6. Re-do this procedure every 2000 operation hours.
