CHBA RELEASES 2020 ECONOMIC IMPACT DATA FOR QUINTE REGION:

For years, the Association has been sharing economic data fact sheets with members and municipalities across the region as they are released by the CHBA on an annual basis.  In the past, we've only had these fact sheets available by municipality and/or via Belleville CMA data.  The QHBA has been working diligently with CHBA's National office to  have a Quinte region fact sheet created, highlighting our industry's economic impact in the region.  We are so excited to share this information with our members (and the entire region): The 2020 data is here and you can view it online here: Information & Statistics (chba.ca).

Once you click on the link, you can also view each municipality, if they are large enough to qualify for their own data sheet.  Belleville CMA data is also provided which includes; Belleville (CITY), Quinte West, Stirling-Rawdon, and Tyendinaga.

The QHBA will continue to spread the word about our industry's economic impact in the Quinte Region, through press releases and social media campaigns.  If you would like more information, please contact our CEO at info@quintehomebuilders.com

QHBA meets with County Staff on follow up re Planning Process and Fees discussion.  IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR BUILDER/DEVELOPER MEMBERS

Recently, the QHBA met with Michael Michaud, the County's Manager of Planning, to discuss the newly implemented Planning Process and fees and to review some of the key points we presented to Council. More details will follow after the minutes have been generated for this meeting.

Base Agreements - Proposed Updates
In the interim, the County has indicated that they will be updating site plan agreements in the future.  As part of this proposed update, they have provided their base agreement documents for site plan and subdivision for review by members. Please find that information here and also here. We are asking members to review the documents and provide any feedback directly to QHBA's CEO via email at info@quintehomebuilders.com.

Wellington Infrastructure Upgrades:
In addition, information regarding the Wellington infrastructure upgrades has been provided in the link below.  We are looking for members to review the documentation within the May 13 Committee of the Whole meeting here:

https://princeedwardcounty.civicweb.net/Portal/MeetingInformation.aspx?Org=Cal&Id=2391 and to provide your feedback directly to the association via email at info@quintehomebuilders.com.

CMHC Home  Housing Supply Challenge

The EOWC (Eastern Ontario Warden’s Caucus) has asked the QHBA to host a session with our builder/developer members to gain some insight related to filling the housing gap in rural eastern Ontario.  We are hoping you are available to attend this short, impactful session to add your industry expertise and experience.

EOWC has been placed as one of the finalists in CMHC’s Housing Supply Challenge; this will be led by Prince Edward County. As you may or may not know, the QHBA co-hosted a regional affordable housing session in 2019 with the EOWC in an effort to connect municipalities with our members on the topic of affordable housing.  Quite often, it is our industry that is ‘”blamed” for affordability based on negative media, misconceptions and public perceptions.  It is our hope, through relationship building with organizations like EOWC and municipalities,  that we can change these perceptions and work together on solutions related to land development and housing supply issues.

Eastern Ontario Homebuilders: We Need Your Help!
We know affordable housing is out of reach for many in our rural communities across Eastern Ontario. However, identifying the solutions that would make a difference varies with local circumstances and is hampered by the lack of reliable local data. Without better data, small and rural communities are unable to identify market needs and the incentives that will fill the gap in housing supply.
With funding from CMHC and under the leadership of Prince Edward County, the Eastern Ontario Wardens Council, is developing a streamlined digital tool to fill the housing information gap. This locally driven tool will consolidate efforts in data acquisition and support municipalities in the planning and development of attainable and affordable housing. It will support not-for-profit and private sector builders in overcoming barriers to the lack of data in rural communities. Using reliable and relevant information, we are building a data tool that will assist you in your decision to build much needed attainable and affordable housing in Eastern Ontario’s smaller communities.
Our consulting team, Itergy and TWC Inc., need your help in developing the data tool.
Your experience in the Eastern Ontario rural development and homebuilding market is extremely valuable. No one knows the housing market better and we need to know how we can help to inform your decision-making processes to meet the demand for new affordable and attainable housing.
