The approved documents include:
- Extending STIR/SHAKEN over TDM (ATIS-1000095)
- SHAKEN Out-of-Band PASSporT Transmission Involving TDM Networks (ATIS-1000096)
- Technical Report on Alternatives for Caller Authentication for Non-IP Traffic (ATIS-1000097)
SHAKEN currently requires an end-to-end SIP telephone network. It does not work for calls that cross a TDM switch or interconnect along the call path. The new standards provide ways to overcome this limitation.
Benefits
- The more SHAKEN is used, the more effective it becomes.
- Subscribers will be more likely to answer signed calls.
- Enterprises will improve call completion.
- The new standards place no requirements on service providers that deploy SHAKEN in SIP networks with SIP interconnects.
