Dear <<First Name>>,

It’s hard to believe that we are already approaching our 4th annual candlelight vigil. Safe Harbor and Paul Pratt Memorial Library welcome all who have been impacted and/or have lost a loved one to addiction to join us on August 31, 2021. This year’s vigil will be held on the evening of International Overdose Awareness Day-a global event aiming to reduce the stigma of drug-related deaths, and acknowledge the grief felt by friends and families while raising overdose awareness. Community members are welcome to gather from 6:45-8:00pm together at Cohasset’s Town Common.

The vigil will include words of guidance, loss and hope delivered by Pastor Karen Bailey-Francois, Molly Murphy, Deb Flannagan, Katie Boudreau, and Michael Duggan. Additional inspiration through youth performances by Lizzy Power and Madeline Clark. We will remember those who have been lost to any kind of substance misuse, uplift our loved ones left behind, and acknowledge the strength and perseverance of the many among us struggling with addiction.

In preparation, we invite family members who have lost a loved one, to email pictures to Laurie Pearson at Lpearson@cohassetma.orgPictures will be displayed throughout the evening, as a way of remembering those we have lost.

(Mass. will get $90m for addiction programs)

By Priyanka Dayal McCluskey, The Boston Globe, July 2021

“Massachusetts, in 2018, was the first state to sue Purdue executives. In the suit, Healey accused them of aggressively marketing their powerful pills and misleading physicians and patients about the risks of opioids in order to increase their profits. The lawsuit alleged that Purdue, the maker of OxyContin, had contributed to the overdose-related deaths of more than 670 Massachusetts residents who were prescribed the company’s drugs since 2009.”

Hidden In Plain Sight
Interactive, Virtual, Mock Teen Bedroom
Recommended for adult parents/caregivers.

Sponsored by Southern Providence County (SPC) Regional Coalition

Courtesy of our friends at SPC Regional Coalition, ‘Hidden In Plain Sight’ provides parents/caregivers an interactive, virtual way to explore a mock teenager bedroom.

Exploring the bedroom will enable you to spot signs of possible substance use. Room décor, hidden compartments, clothing and items are located in the room to conceal substance misuse and other risky behaviors. Finding signs in your teen’s room does not always mean your teen is engaging in risky behaviors but it can be the start of a constructive conversation.
