Last-Minute Reminders and Key Points for Hunt Outfitter Members

July 16, 2021
IOGA Hunt Outfitters,

With deadlines fast approaching, we wanted to be sure you keep these last minute details in mind when dealing with allocated tags.

OGLB Rules

Start requesting tags for your hunters from the pool of tags available July 20th for Capped hunts
An outfitting operation without any designated allocated tags or who has utilized all of its designated allocated tags may submit a request for an allocated tag from the pool.

An allocated tag will be designated from the pool on a first-come, first-served basis, using a waiting list when as necessary, with a maximum of two (2) allocated tags designated to each requesting outfitting operation until all other requesting outfitting operations have been served, then a requesting outfitting operation is eligible to receive a maximum of two (2) additional allocated tags from the pool, repeated until all requesting outfitting operations are served or until no tags remain.

IMPORTANT DATES

July 17, 2021
Resident Elk Tags Start selling to those hunters who applied for an elk controlled hunt.

July 19,2021
All designated deer and elk allocated tags for general hunts should be purchased from F&G by end of [business] day (That's 5:00 PM on July 19). At the end of day, any unused general deer and elk designated allocated tags will go into a pool for other outfitters to use.

Any designated allocated tags that are surrendered or have not been utilized by an outfitting operation on or before the tenth (10) business day prior to July 31 (this is the 19th of July) for a capped hunt will be available in an undesignated pool for any outfitting operation  (in the same hunt).

July 20, 2021
IOGLB staff will begin designating allocated tags from the pool to outfitters who have requested them based on the language at the top of the newsletter for general hunts, deer and elk.

July 30, 2021
This is the last day to purchase general hunt  allocated deer and elk tags from the pool at the F&G Regional offices. At 5:00 PM these tags effectively revert back to the Nonresident quota of tags for each hunt and will come up for sale by the Department on August 5th.

Look this up at the F&G website under Returned Sold Out Tags starting on Aug. 3rd to check for returned tags from outfitter allocations and exchanges.

OTHER NOTES

1. Use your designated allocated tags before or on July 19.

  • A) Buy your hunters tags that you don't have already, including Resident tags.

    • Designated allocated tags used by residents count toward your average use of designated allocated tags in the first step of determining your next designation of allocated tags.

    • Non-designated-allocated tag use by your clients can count toward your overall use, if recorded with the IDFG using the “Outfitted Use Form” ($20). However, this type of use (i.e., non-allocated tag use) only factors into the second step of the designation process.

    • If your F&G contact told that it would not matter as “they are all counted anyway,” that is incorrect. You need to use your designated allocated tags to ensure your full use is included in the next designation process!

    • Outfitters should be able to purchase allocated tags at this time, regardless of whether they intend to use them for residents or non-residents. Outfitters can choose to use an allocated tag for residents, if so, use the $5 reporting form.

  • B) Transfer your extra tags to another outfitter and retain the historic use and that tag for next year.

  • C) Exchange your hunters tags that were purchased early for your designated  allocated tags before July 19.
Remember that any unused designated allocated general tags will become pool tags at 5:00PM of July 19, available to other outfitters in the same hunt.

Need Help?
Tara Reichert  [ (208) 287-2804, tara.reichert@idfg.idaho.gov ] is the License Operations Manager for Fish & Game. She gave IOGA the go-ahead to share her contact information and she is happy to answer questions (including, for instance, to help you get a Jr. Mentored tag if they weren't available when you went to your local F&G office).

2. If you/your hunters still need tags:

  • A) Contact the other outfitters in your hunt to see if they have any tags they are willing to transfer to you.

  • B) Submit your request to IOGLB for pool tags that may come available July 20.

  • C) Check the F&G website for Returned Sold Out Tags on Aug 3rd.

  • D) Start trying to book resident hunters who will be looking for outfitters after the residents buy their tags on July 12th.
[Remember: start booking your 2022 clients now to be ready for the Dec 1 sale of nonresident tags.]

3. With Idaho Forests already burning...

  • …You might consider your policy on requesting your clients to consider trip insurance. This looks like a bad year for fires.

  • Be prepared to file a hardship request with the IOGLB.

Good luck hunting this fall. Call Jeff at 208-315-1840 or Aaron at 208-342-1438 if you have allocation questions or we can help in any other way.
