Welcome to the latest GMCA newsletter - where we bring you updates from Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS), and Mayor of Greater Manchester, in a bid to keep the people of Greater Manchester informed and ensure they are receiving all of the right advice and guidance in relation to COVID-19.

We always appreciate feedback, so if you have any suggestions about what you'd like to see in this newsletter, please email us: news@greatermanchester-ca.gov.uk.

From Monday, July 19, most legal restrictions to control COVID-19 will be lifted in England. However, Covid rates are high and the virus is still spreading so we all need to continue to be careful and cautious, even if we have been vaccinated.

We are continuing to strongly encourage people to wear face coverings in crowded areas such as public transport. Anyone using the Metrolink network, bus stations or transport interchanges in Greater Manchester must still wear a face covering unless exempt. It is also recommended:

  • All adults get both doses of a COVID-19 vaccine
  • If you are meeting up with people try and do so outdoors or if indoors to let fresh air in by opening doors and windows
  • Everyone takes free, regular lateral flow coronavirus tests twice a week
  • Everyone washes their hands regularly for 20 seconds
Face coverings mandatory on Metrolink after July 19
The Mayor has announced that passengers on Metrolink will have to continue to wear a face covering unless exempt when restrictions are lifted.

#BeeWell to launch this autumn

GMCA, Manchester University and the Anna Freud Centre are leading on an exciting new programme, #BeeWell, which looks to survey young people about their wellbeing.

The programme has already received over £1.2 million of funding and a commitment to run the research for at least the next three years.

Around 150 young people from Greater Manchester schools have been involved in the design of the questionnaire, gaining invaluable insight into what wellbeing means to young people, what factors influence their wellbeing, and what makes them thrive.

#BeeWell is set to launch this autumn, with two thirds of Greater Manchester’s secondary schools already signed up. This means that over 45,000 young people will contribute to the survey during their Autumn term. This insight along with academic expertise and youth leadership will give real, meaningful intelligence about how young people are feeling.

Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, has written to all local headteachers encouraging them to sign up to #BeeWell – which is completely free of charge.
