Please can I encourage you to come along to tomorrow's concert? Michael and Maksim have been part of the City Music Foundation family since 2014 have a unique symbiosis, playing everything from memory Their European tour for Beethoven 250, performing the full cycle of piano and violin sonatas, was cancelled due to Covid-19. They have recently appeared at Wigmore Hall and on Radio 3 In Tune, and we're delighted they're returning to Barts Great Hall to play three Beethoven Sonatas that feature on the two discs already released of the trilogy containing the complete works. Michael played the last movement of Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time at Roger's funeral, and I know that the music on Wednesday will be just as beautiful.

We're looking forward to Michael and Maksim's performance tomorrow to mark the release of the second installment of their three disc recording of the complete Beethoven Violin Sonatas.
The works were recorded in Mechelen in 2020 where the composer's grandfather Lodewijk Van Beethoven lived, the origin of the Van Beethoven family. For City Music Foundation's event, they bring three of their favourites, all of which will be performed by memory, creating an increased bond between performers and audience.
There will be a reception after the performance to which all tickets holders are invited and there will be the chance to meet the duo and discuss the recording process.
