Glorious Fruit
Alvin Malave
“I am the true vine, and my Father is the Gardner. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit He prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” (John 15:1-2)
Jesus tells us that bearing fruit is impossible apart from being united to Him. As Christians we are expected to bear fruit to glorify the Father. What is this fruit? “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22)
Production of fruit in our lives provides a weighty testimony of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and His activity in conforming us to Christ. As we are united to Christ by faith, sinful habits are clipped away by the Father, and fruit is produced through the Holy Spirit. Are you seeing this fruit in your life? Bearing fruit and moving toward holiness involves separation, distinctiveness, and godliness. This is what separates the believer from the unbeliever.
Only as we walk in the power of the Spirit can we truly be different from the world we live in. He clothes us with grace, enabling us to yield fruit that glorifies God. Are you drawing on this sustaining life from the vine?
