As COVID-19 cases continue to be detected across Sydney the NSW Government have announced that there will be a one-week extension to the Greater Sydney lockdown until 11:59pm on Friday 16 July.

While there is focus on our region, the continual blaming of the ‘west’ and ‘southwest’ must stop.

The recent decision of the NSW Government to bring the ‘troops’ is troubling. Instead of reactions involving police on horseback, we need to look at the reasons the delta variant has gotten away.

For many in our community English is not their first language. We rightly translate the Premier’s daily press conferences in sign language. We also need to have the public health messages translated accurately and effectively into other languages.

The people of our community are wonderful, selfless and caring. In times of need we mobilise, and dig deep to support those in need. 

South West Sydney communities will always do their bit in defence of their loved ones and the health of our community. We just want to be treated with the same respect and care as everyone else.

Lockdown Extended

Restrictions will be extended for another week until 11:59pm on Friday, 16 July.

Schools will return to online learning from Tuesday, 13 July, for four days. Schools will remain open for students who need them and no child will be turned away from school. All students will return to the classroom on Monday, 19 July.

Please get tested if you have any symptoms and adhere to health advice as we enter another week of lockdown.

Additional Restrictions

From 5pm today (Friday, 9 July) the following additional restrictions will be in place:

- Outdoor public gatherings limited to two people (excluding members of the same household);
- People must stay in their Local Government Area or within 10km of home for exercise and outdoor recreation, with no carpooling between non-household members;
- Browsing in shops is prohibited, plus only one person per household, per day may leave the home for shopping;
- Funerals limited to ten people in total (this will take effect from Sunday, 11 July);

The four reasons to leave your home remain in place:

- Shopping for food or other essential goods and services (one person only);
- Medical care or compassionate needs (only one visitor can enter another residence to fulfil carers’ responsibilities or provide care or assistance, or for compassionate reasons);
- Exercise with no more than 2 (unless members of the same household);
- Essential work, or education, where you cannot work or study from home.

Get Tested!

Anyone in Greater Sydney with even the mildest symptoms, such as headache, fatigue, cough, sore throat or runny nose, should come forward immediately for testing, then isolate until they receive a negative result.

NAIDOC Week

This week is NAIDOC Week and it celebrates the history, culture and achievements of First Nations Australians. This year's theme is 'Heal Country, heal our nation.'

Aboriginal land is more than a place, its family, kin, law, lore, ceremony, traditions and language. Country and identity are one in the same.

I acknowledge the traditional owners, their elders, past, present and emerging of all the traditional lands in Australia. This was, is and always will be Aboriginal lands.

Blake Prize

The Blake Art Prize attracts entries from artists around the world looking for exposure for their work, the opportunity to be hung in the exhibition, and to compete for various prizes including the $35,000 main prize.

Three prizes are selected by the judges for the best contemporary artwork that addresses the religious or spiritual.

Entries are not restricted to works related to any faith or artistic style. All artworks entered must have a recognisable exploration of faith, spirituality, religion, hope, humanity, social justice, belief and/or non-belief.

Submissions open 9 August 2021.

Home Library Service

Liverpool City Library are continuing their Home Library Service throughout lockdown.

This service is great for seniors, people with disability, if you have temporary medical condition or students getting ready for the HSC.
