Explore Lincoln Creek with our second ride in a three part series. We'll meet at HAVENWOODS State Forest. We'll follow the creek to 35th and Congress where we'll hike and see the important role wetlands and retention ponds play in watershed ecology. The biking portion will be lead by Red Bike & Green MKE. and Wisconsin Bike Fed is sponsoring a bike tweak session starting at 10AM - so come early!  Milwaukee Water Commons and Northwest Side CDC are also co-sponsors. Here is a link to the Facebook Event and a link to the full poster with all the details. If you need a bike, a few are available if you act quickly and fill out this :Bike Loan" form.

Urban Ecology Center Summer Intensive

Without question, the Urban Ecology Center has a proven model for transforming communities. In 2020, Nearby Nature was proud to host 6 community activists to attend their summer intensive training.

Nearby Nature Milwaukee is working to use nature as a healing force in our focus area along the Lincoln Creek Greenway and the 30th Street Corridor north of Keefe Ave.  If you or a colleague are connected to this target area and are interested in attending this summer intensive training, Nearby Nature may be able to cover some or all of the cost. It requires committing time to attend five Thursday afternoon online sessions from July 15th through August 12th. Additional reading and study is required.  Please reply to this email for more info.

Nearby Nature Logo with a green leaf, Blue Water drop and an urban sunriseA New Logo?

Yes, with the help of graphic designer Nigeria Riggins, we are the proud owners of this new logo.  It represents a green leaf and a blue water drop under an urban sunrise.  We wanted something bold and bright and Nigeria hit the mark.  We are waiting to finish our website to make our full "rebranding" announcement but we could not wait to start using it.  We think you will enjoy it and will find it in the future on stickers, buttons, t-shirts and reusable non-plastic water bottles.

Organizational and Funding News

Nearby Nature began in 2017 with a one-time grant from the Sierra Club Foundation.  For 2021, we have been blessed with support from the Fund for Lake Michigan,  the James E Dutton Foundation and now also from Bader Philanthropies and the Greater Milwaukee Foundation.  We are also extremely grateful for generous personal donors like you. But there is still a lot to do.  Illustration of Piggy BankOpportunities for partnering on youth programs far outstrip our current capabilities. You can help!  If you are retired, consider a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to reduce your federal taxes. Ask us about this and we can share what we've learned. If you are able to make any contribution to our work, send tax-deductible donations directly to our fiscal sponsor, the Milwaukee Environmental Consortium.  Use this link for Online Donation or mail a check to: Nearby Nature MKE c/o Milwaukee Environmental Consortium, 1836 W.
