Canadian Academy of Nursing Fellowship

 

The Canadian Academy of Nursing Fellowship Program recognizes and celebrates the most accomplished nurses in Canada and across all domains of nursing practice. Fellowship represents the highest honour for Canada’s most accomplished nursing leaders in clinical practice, education, administration, research and policy.

The Canadian Academy of Nursing is the first pan-Canadian organization dedicated to identifying, educating, supporting, and celebrating nursing leaders across all the regulated categories and all domains of practice.

TRAINEE HIGHLIGHTS 

Summer Institute on Aging

 

Yinfei Duan attended the CIHR Summer Institute of AgingA total of 50 trainees from Canada and Sweden were welcomed to SPA 2021 from May 2nd through May 12th.  This is the first time that SPA has been held virtually and the organizers – the McMaster Institute for Research on Aging - created many innovative ways to connect with the trainees and mentors.

Staff Highlights

We are welcoming Zuofu Li who is working on portal development in the JELF project. He is originally from China and graduated from the University of Alberta with a Computer Science degree in April 2020. He enjoys basketball, hiking and all different sports. 
Susan Wright has recently joined TREC working as a Research Assistant for Amber Savage on INFORM. Currently, Susan has been focusing on creating materials for the development of guides. Susan has a Master of Information degree from the University of Toronto. Susan focused her research in her classes on how individuals find and understand information surrounding health, specifically, related to individuals’ relationship to food. 
We welcome Zhenni Xue who is a new a Data Analyst in the Data Unit at TREC. She graduated from Western University and her  interests include the applications of statistical modelling in the health care settings. 
Ashley Daigle is a recent graduate from the University of Alberta, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology along with a certificate in Applied Social Studies Research. She is currently working as a research assistant with the Alberta COVID-Impact Study, where she supports the Regional Project Coordinators in interviewing Health Care Aides on their experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mackinna Hauff is working as a Research Assistant with Heather on the Context project. She graduated December 2019 from New Mexico State University, with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. I have worked for the University for the last 5 years, previously, in the Department of Pediatrics.  

Welcome to our

New TREC Summer Students!

Sydney Slubik is working with Trina Thorne on a scoping literature review to examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the frontline nursing home staffs’ physical health, mental health, and quality of work life.
Jillian Engen is working on the development of a coherent breathing intervention for care aides working in long term care. The goal being to equip care aides with a simple stress management strategy that might restore or maintain care aides’ resilience, improve mental health, and enhance the quality of work life.
Hye Yun Kim is working on the Workforce Resilience project about restoring the mental health of care aides working in long term care homes during the COVID-19 pandemic. My focus is on the psychoeducational intervention components, focusing on educating the care aides about stress and its effects.
Jingyi He is working on a Systematic Review on the effects of pet therapy and robotic pet therapy on improving the mental health and psychological outcomes of older adults.

Virtual AGM

2021 Annual General Meeting

TREC held a successful virtual AGM on June 17 with more than 85 attendees! The day focused on policy and how research can be used to directly inform change. Leading researchers, policy analysts, patient advisors and other thought leaders from across the country came together to discuss how TREC can leverage its over 15 years of expertise and unique data collection and analytical research in the long-term care (LTC) sector in Canada into meaningful, substantive change for Canada’s seniors after the tragic death of COVID-19.

Upcoming Meetings

  • The Research Management Committee has been was restarted after a hiatus and now meets monthly 
  • The next meeting of ISAC is scheduled for October 21-22 in Toronto
  • The grant panel meeting for the Context Project is scheduled for October 28-29

CONFERENCE NEWS

The GSA convenes an Annual Scientific Meeting, which showcases the latest advancements in gerontological research. This event attracts over 3,500 professionals, and the program consists of more than 500 peer-reviewed scientific sessions featuring research presented for the first time. The GSA 2021 Annual Scientific Meeting will be held in Phoenix from November 10-14, 2021.
