From the

Headmistress

Dear Parents

As the school year draws to a close I would like to thank you all for your support this year and in particular the individual support and encouragement given to your children, as we emerge from the Pandemic.  There is a three way partnership between parents, children and teachers in order to thrive at school and be the best you can be.  We recognise that there is an enormous amount of input from busy parents behind the scenes at home, and are always very grateful.

Thank you for joining us last Monday for a few class assemblies and we look forward to our Leavers' service on Friday.

We recognise that all the normal end of year activities are not as we would like them to be, but I would like to thank all my colleagues for working hard and trying to adapt and make events happen rather than cancel important end of year occasions.

We are very proud of all our children.  Teaching is a vocation and yet many teachers are looking forward to leaving the past sixteen months behind.  However, at Grantham Prep School we have delightful, hardworking, well mannered children who generally want to improve and be successful.  How lucky we all are to work with such children and make a difference to their lives.  It is a privilege to work with our children at Grantham Prep School and we look forward to the future and a return to school in September without the constraints of "class bubbles".

Next week is Activity week.  We hope to have some fun together before we break up before the Summer  holidays.  This is a reward to all our children for the extraordinary effort they all made at home under lock down and after returning to school.

Enjoy the weekend.

Headmistress

Piano Exam Success

Congratulations to Yuvan who has passed his Grade 4 piano exam.

Very well done.
STEAM Activities
Animal Drawings

After the exhilaration of the summer production, Class 6 have enjoyed some wonderful STEAM activities this last week. We chose our own animal and used the How2DrawAnimals youtube channel to help us. It gives thorough, step by step guidance to structure the required shapes, outline and shading. This was a nice, relaxing activity alongside rehearsing for our Leavers' Service on Friday.
Spanish Skills
Spanish Skills

Class 4 were asked to listen carefully, then to try to identify different words from a fast-spoken Spanish tape - I was amazed at their knowledge of vocabulary, and their super effort in pronunciation of some very tricky words.

Madame Balestra certainly has increased pupils' understanding of Spanish, and makes it fun with a game of 'spin the wheel' 'Hangman', where the girls challenge the boys to identify the phrase. By some lucky spins of the wheel, the girls were eventual winners, but I think EVERYONE is a winner in Class 4 to have such great language skills - well done Class 4!
Sporting Designs
Sporting Designs

With Euro 2020 and Wimbledon in full flow and the Tokyo Olympic Games around the corner Class 5 were challenged to create a team or individual  kit for their chosen sport or team. The children then put their ICT skills to the test to complete the task. Judging the results there may be some future designers in class 5.
Thank You & Well Done
Well done and thank you

I would just like to say a huge well done to each and every child in Class 3 for a fantastic year. As I said on Monday. It has been a challenging year for everyone but the children in Class 3 have faced each of the challenges thrown at them with a smile on their face and a determination to succeed. You should be very proud of yourselves.
Euros
This week the girls in Year 5 got into the spirit of the Euros by producing a football video of some of England's best moments.  Including some motivational cheers from children and staff from Grantham Prep! We hope you like it!

It's Coming Home!

Class two have been getting excited for the Semi Finals of the Euros. We have been discussing the thrill of the potential possibility of winning. We spoke about how it has been a long time since England last won and we feel we deserve it. I am impressed with their efforts in learning ‘It’s coming home’ song in Music with Ms Kerby today.

What a lovely wind down to a busy term. I know all the children are excited to visit Class Three tomorrow and the World Famous Miss Linehan.
Fluttery Friends & Good Times
Fluttery friends and Good Times!

This week, Class One had the pleasure of releasing two of Christopher's butterflies which he has been nurturing since they were teeny, tiny caterpillars. We did manage to find a sunny playtime to set them off on new adventures despite such an inclement week's weather. The children have also been looking at metamorphosis and life cycles. Everyone in Year One has joined together to create a wonderful display of favourite journeys and memories. I think we are all longing to see new places after many months of Covid-19 restrictions. Have a super summer break, keep safe and most importantly - have lots of fun!
Having Fun in Reception
Having Fun in Reception

The children have enjoyed a fun last week in Reception before they have the planned Activity Week next week. At the start of the week their first challenge was to work as a team. They had to create some amazing sunglasses to wear in the lovely sunshine. They thought that people might be able to wear these crazy sunglasses in the hot climate countries which they have been studying in Geography. In these lessons they also looked at a globe to see where in the world African and South American countries were. I was very impressed with George who could name all of the seven continents of the world.  They also covered what the climate would be like in countries near the equator.

The children have had lots of fun learning to play tag rugby in their weekly PE lesson with Mr Park. Once again they enjoyed playing in teams and learning all the basic skills of the game. We already have some budding rugby players in the cohort! The children have also been improving their coordination and have been experimenting with different ways to balance on some of the new wooden outdoor equipment that we have on the grass outside the classroom. A great week Reception!
Pre-School

A School Record for Pre-school!

Massive congratulations for Ned for gaining a 4.00m distance throw in the javelin during our sport’s day competition! He was thrilled to accept his certificate during Mrs Korcz’s assembly last Monday. Well done Ned!
Keeping in with the Sport’s theme we had, on Wednesday our last lesson with Mr Park. He decided we should have a go at Tag rugby which proved to be a lot of fun. Tags were put on the children and they were shown how to take tags off their Velcro belt. Everyone then had a go at trying to take a tag off another child. Not as easy as you might think! Some children were very good at zig zagging across the pitch avoiding getting tagged! Then Mr Park gave 3 children at a time a foam rugby ball and they had to get across the pitch, without being tagged before putting the ball down over the line. Some got tagged but mostly lots made it over the line. Great work everyone. A GREAT BIG THANK YOU TO Mr PARK for making our P.E. lessons lots of fun and for developing our physical motor skills in all sorts of ways! You will be missed!
