Hello, all! We have had a great week here at Exile and are looking forward to some great events in July, one of which took place last night. If you get a chance go to our website or our YouTube channel and check out the riveting conversation between Carolyn Ferrell and Dan Chaon, where they discussed Carolyn's incredible new novel, Dear Miss Metropolitan. We have copies of that and Ill Will by Dan in stock for purchase. Both come with signed bookplates!

Why are we so excited about July? Well, for one, we will be hosting three of our events live and in person, just like the good old days. The first will be with T.J. Newman, who will be in conversation with Chicago's own Lori Rader-Day. They will be discussing T.J. 's recently released and highly addictive thriller, Falling. This will be a hybrid event, which means that T.J. and Lori will be in front of a live audience here in the building and we will also be transmitting virtually to folks across the globe. T.J. and Lori will be signing copies of their books after the event as well.

New books! Please come see what new titles we have brought in for your perusal and if there is something you would like to order we are more than happy to do so for you. And if you can't make it to the store we are more than happy to ship to your doorstep. We are here for you!

Many thanks to all that have come to say hello!  Check out a few photos from authors that came to hang and sign books. Stop in and say hi and be sure to visit our website, Instagram, Spofity, Twitter, YouTube, and any other site we’re forgetting.

We are happy to announce that our very first live and in-person event will have T.J. Newman in conversation with Chicago's own Lori Rader-Day on July 12th at 7:00pm! They will discussing T.J.'s blockbuster debut novel Falling!

T. J. Newman, a former bookseller turned flight attendant, worked for Virgin America and Alaska Airlines from 2011 to 2021. She wrote much of Falling on cross-country red-eye flights while her passengers were asleep. She lives in Phoenix, Arizona. Falling is her first novel.

Lori Rader-Day is the Edgar Award-nominated and Anthony Award- and Mary Higgins Clark Award-winning author of The Lucky One, Under a Dark Sky, The Day I Died, Little Pretty Things, and The Black Hour. She co-chairs the mystery conference Murder and Mayhem in Chicago and is a former national president of Sisters in Crime. Her new book, Death at Greenway, is based on a little-known moment in history, when a group of Londoners were evacuated from the Blitz during World War II to Agatha Christie’s holiday estate.

Through the magic of technology this one will be a hybrid event, which in essence means that T.J. and Lori will be chatting on the fourth floor of the Fine Arts Building, 410 South Michigan Avenue, in a beautiful and open-air courtyard, just two floors above our store that will be open to the public. That conversation will be broadcast virtually on Zoom through Eventbrite. If you are going to join us virtually register for this free event through the button link below. If you would like to join us in person come early as seating will be limited. The event will promptly begin at 7pm, so plan to arrive by 6:45pm.

We will have copies of Falling by T.J. and The Lucky One by Lori in store and they will be happy to sign copies. We ship nationally so shoot us an email or give us a call to order their books!

Mask up if you have not yet been vaccinated, please. We look forward to seeing you all!

Click here to register for free for the virtual event! There is no need to register for in-person.

Join us on Wednesday, July 7th at 7:00pm central to help celebrate Matt Bell’s new novel, Appleseed. Matt will be in conversation with Josh Ritter!

His writing has appeared in The New York Times, Tin House, Conjunctions, Fairy Tale Review, American Short Fiction, and many other publications. Josh Ritter is a songwriter and novelist from Moscow, Idaho. His albums include The Animal Years and So Runs the World AwayBright's Passage was his first novel. He lives in New York. His new book, The Great Glorious Goddamn of It All comes out September 7, 2021.

Appleseed and Bright’s Passage will be available for purchase through our store—phone, email, or stop in to pick up or have them shipped out to you! You can also purchase their books through their respective links. Shopping through Bookshop helps Exile immensely, but buying direct from our physical store is most beneficial to us. We are eternally grateful no matter how you choose to shop Exile. Thank you, thank you, thank you! We will have signed bookplates for Matt Bell and Josh Ritter!

This is administered as a free event through Eventrbrite. Should you wish to donate to Exile in Bookville’s cause there is an option on the registration page.
