2021 KidWind Challenge Update

We want to take a moment to thank the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) for their continued sponsorship and support of the the KidWind Challenge in Kansas. None of it would be possible without them!

KCC put together the flyer below describing the 2021 KidWind Challenge results, including how Kansas teams did at the National KidWind Challenge. You can also view a full-sized PDF version of this flyer.

Family Friendly Phenomenon Field Trip
Saturday, July 24, 2021

Join us on Saturday, July 24th, for a Family Friendly Phenomenon Field Trip. Bring the family for a morning of exploring wind energy with interactive, hands-on activities. Teachers will receive a $50 stipend just for attending! The agenda for the event will be as follows:
  • 9:00am: Introduction
  • 9:10am: “Be the Blade” activity – a fun way to talk about blade speed on wind turbines
  • 9:30am: Sail Car activity – build a sail car
  • 10:00am: Sail Car testing – compete on our 30’ track. Whose car will go the farthest?
  • 10:20am: Break
  • 10:30am: Build a wind turbine to test in our wind tunnel
  • 11:00am: Test your wind turbine. Which one will produce the most energy?
  • 11:30am - 12:00pm: Think you can do better? Choose your sail car or wind turbine and make changes to see if you can perform better.
Register for a spot here. The event will take place at KEP’s office in Manhattan (2323 Anderson Ave). Use the rear door entrance (near the picnic tables) to access our office on the third floor. We will have signs to assist you in finding our office. Parking instructions are found here. Since this is a Saturday, parking permits are not required.

2021 Summer Virtual Workshop Series

The KidWind Project is hosting a virtual workshop series this summer! Partners at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) have provided some scholarship funds to attend the series.

If you are a K-12 teacher, use the coupon code RENEW2021, and it will reduce your registration fee to ONLY $50.  That saves you $100!  They have a limited number of scholarships and slots available, so you will want to sign up quick.

These 4-hour fully virtual workshops are hands-on and focus on delivering just enough content knowledge to get going, as well as a wide variety of practical activities for your classroom. Sign up here!
