Dear <<First Name>>,

The pandemic has shone a light on something we’ve known for a long time – that access to affordable, inclusive child care is not only good social policy, it’s also vital to our economy. Since we formed government, we’ve created thousands of child care spaces across BC, and made them more affordable. Families are already feeling the benefits, with many parents saving up to $1,600 a month per child. Over the next three years, our government will be investing more than $2.5 billion in our Childcare BC plan.

We’ve established ourselves as a national leader in child care and we’re proud to be the first province to in Canada to sign an agreement to build a national low-cost child care system. We’ve secured an investment of over $3 billion in our plan from the federal government. By working together, we’re making $10-a-day child care a reality for more families.

The pandemic has had a disproportionate impact on women, who often take on more child care responsibilities in families. By making child care more affordable and accessible, we’re allowing more women to make the choice to go back to work or go back to school to further their education.

We’re building an inclusive, universal child care system that will support our strong economic recovery, and benefit BC families for generations to come.

Expanded Eating Disorder Support

Eating disorders are widely misunderstood, and this stigma often keeps those who need help from reaching out for support. I'm really proud that our government is investing $6.6 million to increase access to virtual peer support services and enhanced eating disorder services throughout the province.

This funding will go a long way to help increase awareness and improve access to services so people can get the care they need to set them on a path towards recovery.

BC Hydro Customer Crisis Fund

Families and businesses have been facing challenges none of us could have imagined due to the global pandemic, which is why we’re extending BC Hydro’s Customer Crisis Fund to continue providing support for people in financial crisis and help avoid disconnections of their electricity service.

The extension will help families get back on their feet and make life more affordable for all British Columbians.

Financial assistance available for local governments, First Nations impacted by wildfire

As we face a particularly challenging wildfire season we are committed to continuing to invest in the people and resources necessary to mitigate and recover from disaster while tackling the climate crisis that is contributing to the increase in extreme weather events.

Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) is now available for local governments and First Nations in regions that may have been impacted by the wildfires that started June 16, 2021.

This funding will help communities cover disaster-related losses that are not covered by insurance, such as wildfire damage to public infrastructure – including roads, bridges and other publicly owned infrastructure.
Post-secondary return to in-person learning follows BC’s Restart plan

This week, the Ministry of AEST and I announced the return to in-person learning at post-secondary schools, which will benefit the health and well-being of students.

This plan is in line with our careful Restart Plan, which is informed by data and guided by public health advice.
PST eliminated on e-bikes

We committed to eliminating the PST on e-bikes to make active transportation more affordable, and this change is now in effect.

By making these methods of transportation more affordable, we are helping to reduce carbon emissions, contributing to a greener environment, helping people stay healthy and fit, while improving the accessibility of biking.
