Dear <<First Name>>,
The view from the study
It has been a real privilege to have been part of the Belhaven team as we have navigated our way through this unprecedented year. This final Eagle’s Eye gives a flavour of an action-packed final fortnight.
Our focus has been to provide as many experiences as possible, as many chances for success and development and pride of achievement as we can organise – and the children have responded with phenomenal energy, commitment and passion.
The fervour of the presentation by the Plastic Free Schools Action Group, the passion of the School Council as we discussed the recommendations of the Belhaven Voice Box, the skill on display in concerts, plays and sports events – these have been real highlights with which to finish the year.
You can watch the Prize Giving video here.
Well done, and a happy summer holiday to you all!
Best wishes.

Trips Reports |
Old favourites and fresh challenges! |
It is a wonderful Belhaven tradition that all of the children participate in trips to various exciting locations after summer half term.
Enormous credit must go to the staff for organising them all at such short notice, given the ever-changing guidance – it has been wonderful to see the excitement and to hear all the stories!

End of Term Performances |
'All the world’s a stage…' |
The Mansfield Cup
The 46th Annual Mansfield Cup was different to any other. Zoomed from the Sports Hall and recorded for posterity, it was a great opportunity for some Inter-Patrol competition. Given the considerably reduced practice time, it was a testament to the determination, energy and focus of the Music department that, despite some technical difficulties due the complexity of combining live performances with pre-recorded ones, this was such a success. The Owls emerged victorious after a recount of some very close scores. Watch the video here (password: BHMC2021!)
The Summer Concert
This annual treat produced a wonderful variety of performances and it was great to welcome back the Form 1s from their Leavers’ Trip just in time! Again, this was live-streamed on Zoom and recorded and you can listen again to all of the performances here (password: BHSC2021!). We look forward to welcoming you all to this event next year!
‘The Bard at Belhaven’
With restrictions preventing a full-scale performance all year, the emphasis has been on smaller Drama sharings, and this Form 1 and 2 production has been evidence of what can be achieved by a focused group working consistently over the course of a term. The activities slots have been used to rehearse in the Walled Garden and we have been totally reliant upon the weather! We were delighted to welcome back Aisling McGuire to present some awards and to enjoy the show. Watch the video. |

Progress for our Young Entrepreneurs! |
BAFTA YGD Awards |
On Thursday 8th July, Form 3’s Tom W will be logging in to the virtual BAFTA Young Games Designer awards ceremony to see whether he will be an award winner! ‘Hot Dodge’, the game that he has designed and built, has caught the eye of the nominations panel - good luck Tom!
Plastic Free Schools Action Group
Congratulations to our Action Group – their letters to local MP Kenny MacAskill have prompted replies and a letter from Mr. MacAskill to the Rt Hon George Eustice, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to see what the government plans to do in order to reduce the use of plastic.
Well done for pushing the pace of change! |

The Art and Design Summer Exhibition |
|
One of the highlights of a normal year would be to welcome you all to the ‘End of Year’ show in the Art Department.
This year has required a different platform – some of the pottery has been displayed at the front of the school over the past fortnight – and now I am delighted to say that we can offer you the online Art and Design Exhibition.
There is an extraordinary variety of excellent work on show – well done to all of the artists and to Miss Wimbledon and Mrs Haddon for their inspirational teaching. |
