Speak Gaelic will be launching in a few weeks! You can sign up on their site HERE for updates.
Over the past few weeks, we've been conducting interviews with different members of the Nova Scotian Gaelic Community. The first interview to be shared will be with Kieran Walker, the administrator for Comhairle na Gàidhlig! His interview will be available to read on our Social Media pages this weekend, and will also be sent out to our newsletter recipients.

Gàidheil air Adhart Fund | The Gaels Forward Fund

Comhairle na Gàidhlig is pleased to award a Gàidheil air Adhart grant to the Biorachan Beag agus Biorachan Mór Audiobook Project! Last year Bradan Press published a paperback version of Biorachan Beag agus Biorachan Mór with illustrations by Eimilidh Dhòmhnallach / Emily MacDonald and this spring they produced an audiobook edition with the support of the grant. The text was read aloud by Ìomhair MacDhòmhnaill / Edward MacDonell and recorded and mixed by Scott Ferguson of FMP Matrix Studios in Dartmouth, NS. This audiobook edition for the Biorachan Beag agus Biorachan Mór Audiobook Project has been made available for free on Bandcamp and YouTube HERE

Bradan Press also received funding for their Luran agus a’ Mhaighdeann-mhara Book Project. The tale was told by tradition bearer Mickey John H. MacNeil (Mìcheal Eòin Chaluim Sheumais Mhòir) and it is his favourite tale to tell. It is based on versions brought by the Gaels from the Isle of Barra to Iona, Cape Breton in the 1800s. Bradan Press is publishing a paperback book version of Mickey’s tale, edited by Shamus Y. MacDonald, with illustrations by Eimilidh Dhòmhnallach / Emily MacDonald. The Gàidheil air Adhart grant supported payments to Mickey and Shamus for work on the text of this book, and it will be published in September or October 2021.

Over the past few weeks, we have been sharing different Gàidheil air Adhart recipients on our Social Media pages. To view the posts, please visit our Facebook page HERE

Tobar an Dualchais

This three-day online course offers anyone with an interest in Scotland’s unique cultural heritage – including visual artists, writers, musicians, budding-folklorists and creative educators – an opportunity to learn more about the online resource, why the material was collected and by whom, and how and why it is of value today.

Participants will be introduced to some of the many important tradition bearers whose recordings populate the archives and be given the tools to explore the material with greater efficiency and understanding.

The course will be in English but will discuss themes intrinsically linked to Gaelic, Scots and English, including examples of local dialects preserved in some of the recordings.

The course will be delivered by leading scholars and creative practitioners who have extensive experience with the material, including Dr Mairi McFadyen, Raghnaid Sandilands who will help participants explore the potential of the online resource through various lenses, including local creativity, cultural ecology and environmental awareness.
