Regional Waste Management Study Complete

View the Regional Waste Management Study that looked at 8 communities in the WestCOG Region (Darien, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Stamford, Wilton, Weston, Westport). The study evaluated the feasibility and potential savings of the sharing or consolidation of municipal transfer station facilities and operations in eight communities within the Western Connecticut Planning Region.

American Rescue Plan Project Management RFQ

The Western Connecticut Council of Governments (“WestCOG”) has initiated a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) process to identify a qualified consultant (person or firm) to assist the region’s members with matters related to the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. Section 5310 Program Open

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Section 5310 program intends to enhance mobility for seniors and persons with disabilities by providing funds for programs that serve the special needs of transit-dependent populations beyond traditional public transportation and paratransit. This program awards grants towards the purchase of wheelchair accessible vehicles. Both private non-profit organizations and local public bodies are eligible for FTA Section 5310 funds.

Applications for funding are due to WestCOG and CTDOT by August 3, 2021. Please review the announcement on WestCOG's 5310 Webpage for important deadlines and more information.

Open Space Inventory

WestCOG, in partnership with The Nature Conservancy, is seeking a temporary GIS Technician to complete an Open Space Inventory and to perform an overlay analysis with open space property and flood zones as part of a flood resiliency incentive program. Transit Lot Map Viewer

WestCOG staff have recently begun collecting quarterly usage data for commuter parking lots across the region. This data is now available to view, explore, and download through the WestCOG Commuter Lot Explorer, a web dashboard hosted on our website! This resource will be continually updated as new data is collected.

Sustainable CT Update

The Sustainable CT Fellows, Valentina and Liam, have been working with 13 of 18 WestCOG municipalities for summer certification. WestCOG currently has 13 registered, 9 bronze, and 2 silver status communities (Include names of towns). Interested in bringing your community into the Sustainable CT Program? Feel free to reach out to Liam and Valentina to learn how.

In the meantime, Liam and Valentina will continue organizing Sustainability CT program documentation, coordinating with sustainability leaders, and navigating discussions on equity. You may even see them working within your municipality! Each Wednesday they have been exploring the WestCOG region, learning about the character of each municipality, and seeking out the best ice cream the region has to offer. The fellows look forward to connecting with your communities!
