CO-OPS AND THE PANDEMIC: A STUDY

How did your co-operative, mutual or co-op association/federation cope with the pandemic?

Share your experience by completing a survey developed by Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada, the International Centre for Co-operative Management, Cape Breton University University, and the Institut de recherche et d'éducation pour les coopératives et les mutuelles de l'Université de Sherbrooke.

CMC and its partners are undertaking a study on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Canadian co-operatives, credit unions and mutuals. Its purpose is to:
  1. Understand how the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the Canadian co-operatives and mutuals;
  2. Learn about the measures they adopted to weather the crisis and help their members and communities;
  3. Identify the support they offered and received during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The results will be used to assist CMC in its mission to support and represent Canadian co-operative and mutual businesses by working with key players in the co-operative sector and government.

The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete and is found at this LINK.

CELEBRATE THE WORK OF CDF CANADA

Empowering women through co-operatives is at the centre of the Co-operative Development Foundation of Canada’s (CDF Canada) work. This year, COVID-19 is having an unprecedented impact on society, especially for women. With lockdowns, there has been an increase in domestic responsibilities, loss in livelihoods, and rising domestic violence.

As economies started to open after the initial lockdown, CDF Canada began with the SEW, Ukraine project to foster economic prosperity for 2,200 women. The project will support women with access to employment and training. In addition, the project will help women with higher skills to establish new micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises.

  • Developing research projects that support the development of the co-op and mutual sector.
Amounts are available up to $2500 for those aged 18-35. HURRY: The deadline for most applications is July 15th, but some funding is available until Jan 1, 2022. All of the details are HERE.

WHAT'S MISSING? ARE YOU UP TO DATE??

For the last few months, Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC) has been updating its listings of co-operatives, credit unions and mutuals - the only national inventory of its kind in Canada.

The research project involves contacting every co-operative, credit union and mutual in Canada by email to verify basic details and contact information. One of the results will be in updated data that appears on the interactive national CO-OP MAP

The project will be winding down soon. If your organization hasn't been contacted yet by CMC, they may not have your email address. Send your name, corporate email and co-op/CU/mutual name to Mark Ventry, Project Manager, at mventry@canada.coop or use the link available from CMC’s map page. The research team will send a secure link where you can review and update your information.
