Originally registered as the Kilimahewa Women and Orphan's Centre for Education, an organization with a mission to serve vulnerable youth, KIWOCE has helped countless post-primary teens and young adults to secure a future through its Center, officially registered as the KIWOCE Open School in 2016. 

As of Spring 2021, however, KIWOCE Open School's property owner and EdPowerment's partner in this educational endeavor, announced that the School was converting to a formal, private Kilimahewa Modern Secondary School under her ownership. This unilateral move will change the school's mission, its population, and its management and academic systems. 

This change in status has prompted EdPowerment's decision to refocus our efforts on our sponsorship program and projects that will continue to fulfill our mission:  

Anchored in the Kilimanjaro region of Tanzania, EdPowerment provides transformative educational opportunities that enable disadvantaged teens and young adults to pursue purpose-filled and secure lives. 

EdPowerment has been informed that the current students can remain at KIWOCE this year.  Therefore, we are continuing to fund the teachers and administrative staff of the now former KIWOCE Open School until year-end 2021, so that these students can complete their academic year and take National Exams in Forms 2 and 4. However, we no longer have any input into the overall management of the school.

We are grateful for the hundreds of lives whose futures were impacted  either through the Center/School's secondary school equivalency program) computer training program, THRIVE programs for secondary and high school graduates, short courses, library, clubs and even the amazing Camps open to community teens.  In our 11 years of support, KIWOCE became an educational oasis that offered young people hope where there was none and the skills needed to secure lives of dignity and promise.

With the steadfast support of our donors and the leadership of our new Tanzanian NGO arm, we will chart new territory through sponsorships and strategic partnerships, serving those whose futures depend on our commitment.
