Kim Cobb, PhD

Kim is a renowned climate scientist and professor, since 2004, in the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Georgia Tech. She is a Georgia Power Faculty Scholar and Director of Georgia Tech’s Global Change Program.
  • Studied geology and biology at Yale, where she became increasingly aware of the anthropogenic causes of climate change.
  • Completed undergraduate and graduate studies at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography,
  • Earned her PhD at Scripps in 2002.
  • Pursues research into geochemistry, oceanography and paleoclimate modeling in her lab and at field sites around the globe.
She has testified on her findings and insights into climate change before local, national and international organizations, including last year at the House Committee on Natural Resources hearings: “Climate Change: Impacts and the Need to Act.”

Kim declares that, “The decisions we collectively make in the next ten years will determine the rate and ultimate magnitude of climate change over the next decades to centuries.” Dr. Cobb will present a brief summary of the science of climate change impacts, including what we know about recent extreme events and impacts across the Southeastern region. She will leverage her professional expertise and her personal journey towards a low-carbon lifestyle to highlight a variety of effective ways for individuals to accelerate the transition towards our stable climate future. She invites you to join her in discussion, to be inspired into action, and be part of the growing community of people who, by working together, can make man-made global cooling a reality as soon as the 2050’s.

WCAGA believes partnering Art with Science can create raised awareness of the narrowing window available to humankind to positively affect climate change. This collaboration offers us resources and actionable steps each of us can adopt to reverse the spiral of global warming, and sustain our natural world.
