Summer Reading Challenge 2021!

Get ready for Wild World Heroes, arriving online and in your local library this summer.

Pack your bags, we’re headed for Wilderville!
It’s a pretty cool place, but there are lots of things that the Wild World Heroes can do to make their town even better for the people and animals that live there.

Join the Wild World Heroes for the Summer Reading Challenge and discover how you can make a difference to the environment too.

Cambridgeshire Libraries are planning a local event to tie in with the challenge.

"Join us for a moo-vable outdoors storytime where we’ll share stories, featuring some of our favourite hooved friends!
Meet us by the Cherry Hinton Village sign for a walking storytime at Cherry Hinton Hall Park!"

For more information including date and times check out the eventbrite page here.

Shelford Feast Day- Today 10th July!

"The organisers behind The Shelford Feast are running a free event on Shelford Rec with a licensed bar. There will be food vans and live music throughout the day, and the evening will feature classic soul and funk from sax player James Knight and his band of top session musicians, including vocalist Louise Marshall (Jools Holland, Pink Floyd). Continuing the classic soul theme, Terry Jones will close the night with his DJ set.

The event will be free to attend, though we’re asking people to let us know if they plan to come by dropping us an email with the names of those planning to attend to shelfordfeast@yahoo.com in order to monitor numbers and remain Covid-compliant."

Do you want to continue to vote for a Cambridge MP from 2023?
 If so then you need to go to the  Boundary Commission for England website and make a comment by Monday August 2nd at the latest

https://www.bcereviews.org.uk/

Why?
The Boundary Commission for England (the independent organisation responsible for reviewing Parliamentary constituency boundaries in England) is proposing a new set of boundaries for Parliament Seats.  (This will not affect Cherry Hinton City Councillors or County Councillor).

Under this Cherry Hinton would vote for a South Cambridgeshire MP.  It would mean that Cherry Hinton electors would be joining the villages mainly to the South of Cambridge.

You can write an objection on the website if you think Cherry Hinton has more links with the City of Cambridge than South Cambridgeshire and should continue to elect a Cambridge MP.

Useful Information for your comment which is limited to 10000 characters
In previous boundary reviews the Commission has been interested to hear how people have community ties with one area rather than another –
Examples of this include

  • clubs and societies based in Cherry Hinton that are open to people from across Cambridge;
  • how people shop in Cambridge;
  • where people go to school, church etc.

The Commission says that they welcome all comments on their proposals, but where you disagree, they are very interested to see detailed alternatives (in this case other areas of Cambridge)  that you would propose instead.

You can upload up to five documents per comment.

The Commission says "In commenting on our proposals we ask you to remember that every constituency we propose must contain between 69,724 and 77,062 Parliamentary electors. This often makes it hard for us to come up with an ideal solution that suits everybody. What is particularly valuable to us is evidence from the local area of community ties that we can balance against the need to ensure the right amount of electors in each constituency."

Is it worth making a comment?
There was a boundary review in 2004 the Assistant Commissioner reported on widespread opposition to remove the Cherry Hinton Ward and it remained within the City of Cambridge!

If you are looking for space to rent for your community group or business after the unlocking on 19th July, then Cherry Hinton Baptist Church currently has space in the family centre at the times above. See https://www.ch-bc.org.uk/community-room for more info!

If you’re thinking about the summer holidays, please note that there will be a Holiday Bible Club for 5-11 yr olds between Monday 26th July and Friday 30th July; 10am-12:30pm.
Now in its 32nd year, the holiday club will have the usual mix of drama, songs, craft, games and the soaking of the yellow shirted helpers.  Although it takes place at Colville School it is run by Cherry Hinton Churches and is open to children from all schools.  It costs only £10 per child for the week (or £5 if on pupil premium) and this year has the theme of Space Academy!.  Book places now at www.ch-bc.org.uk/HolidayClub or on forms available through schools.
