I’m sure other rescues are seeing the same problem we are. There are so many MORE this year!
For six to eight months last year, we couldn’t get a spay or neuter appointment because of the pandemic. We had to let it go: we had no other choice. If we ever doubted that our efforts are making a difference, we have only to see what the lack of those efforts has done.
Every day I am offered cats, kittens, even dogs and puppies via email, phone calls, even texts from people who know us. We would LOVE to help all the animals who need us, but that’s just not possible. We need more fosters, more donations, more volunteers to manage this onslaught!
One of the most heartbreaking things I have to say is, “No.” I am asked, “Can you help me? Can you take this kitty?” I often have to say we cannot. The next question is usually, “Can you refer me to someone who CAN help?” I have to say “no” again. The shelters are full, our sanctuary is full, our fosters are full. And people are venturing out into the world, going on vacation, needing a break.
Please foster if you can. We have kittens, cats, older cats, all who need fosters and, eventually, adopters.
