A note from our President!

July 2021
“Creativity takes courage” – Henri Matisse

Dear Glass friends-

I hope you are enjoying the warmer weather, the re-opening of the state of Michigan, (and some countries, Canada I am looking at you), and the possibilities of seeing family, friends and loved ones!   I hope your “COVID 19 bubble” has expanded and you are making up for lost time!

We are in full blown summer mode at my house!  And one thing has changed dramatically- I elected to retire!  By the end of August, I will be fully retired, and I am currently working part time to on-board some of the new employees that will take over my work load!  It is a big change and I am working on figuring out my next steps, but I am excited for the new opportunities!

For me, Summer always becomes official when we pass the 4th of July!  It has always confused me that the summer solstice was in June as it feels like the longest day of the year should always be in July.

Speaking of retirement- did you  know our own Susan Richards will hand over the reigns of the ISGB in August  to Bronwen Heileman?  Congratulations to Susan and how she was able to handle some very difficult years of transition as the ISGB president.  Time to take a breath and focus on family and fun once again!  Thank you for your service to the greater glass bead world!

Guild business and fun!

We have many possibilities to discuss as a group:

  1. We have booked Patty Lakinsmith to conduct a demo for the guild on July 18th  at 4:00 EST via zoom.

The zoom invite will be sent to all prior to the event.

  1. Cyndy Gohsman has graciously  agreed to host the annual picnic at her home in Holly on Sunday, August 22.  The guild will provide pre-packed lunches and dessert so no one has to worry about food preparation or bringing something to the party!
  2. Thanks to the efforts of Ms Cyndy Gohsman, we were able to re-book the retreat space at Lake Huron for 2021. We need to know if anyone is interested in attending in October this year!  The dates are October 15-17th

The retreat center WILL NOT hold us to the required number of rooms, so we have some flexibility.

Do we want to try for the time together in October?  Or should we plan to bump the retreat to 2022? What say the guild?

  1. We have elections coming up this year for the President and Secretary.  Have you thought about volunteering for a position?

Please feel free to reach out to any of the board members to discuss.

  1. Has anyone heard about the status of Bead Bonanza for the Fall of 2021?  Please send an update to the board…
  2. We need to discuss options for a winter show?  Winter wonders has been considerably smaller the last few years than in the past?  How do we proceed?  What is the guild interested in doing?

Looking forward to virtually seeing you next week.

Stay safe and healthy!                                                                                             Pam                                                                                            drpamkellett@gmail.com or 248-709-3808

Some Reminders!

First, Congratulations to both Susan and Pam for their eminent retirements. Jobs well done! And won't it be nice to see each other IRL in August? If feels a little like coming out of a coma (I can only imagine here). Real people, real gatherings. Huzzah!

Where is Glassy Gladys??  In lockdown - still? Sigh.

Birthday Bead Exchange - Let Annie Shook know if you are interested in participating - wouldn't it be great to get a handmade lampworked bead on your birthday?

OK, Folks that's a wrap. I hope I remembered everything :-P"""""""
