Due to the understandable and ongoing interest from consumers around BetIndex and its Football Index platform, we have a further update which will be of interest to the company’s customers. 

The Gambling Commission has certain powers as a regulator and sometimes it is assumed we can do things which we cannot. This does not mean we do not recognise the distress and clear upset that many Football Index customers will be feeling. 

The Gambling Commission has instigated a review under s116 of the Gambling Act 2005 into PlayerFT Limited (t/a Fiveyards).

The Gambling Commission has suspended the operating licence of Martin Henry Bailey as it carries out a review under s116 of the Gambling Act 2005. 

Given the large number of sporting events over the summer season, operators are being reminded that all significant terms and conditions which are likely to affect a consumer’s understanding of a marketing promotion must be prominently displayed within adverts. 

Where operators find dye-stained bank notes on their premises, they should use non-emergency contact options to report the deposits to the relevant local police force. 

The Information Commissioner’s Office has published a Commissioner’s Opinion and a blog post addressing privacy concerns on the use of live facial recognition technology in public places. 

Operators are advised to read the publications and direct any further questions about the use of this technology to the ICO.

The new service Apply for a personal licence (Apply for a PL) will go live in the last week of July 2021.  It brings together, into one service, all applications for personal licences (PML and PFL) and Annex A approvals.  

Any in progress applications in Application Online (for PMLs and Annex As) and in the Apply for a PFL service (for PFLs) should be completed, paid and submitted by 23 July 2021.   

After 23 July 2021, you will no longer be able to use Application Online for PML applications and Annex A approvals or Apply for a PFL for new PFL applications.  

We will not be able to transfer in progress applications from the old services and as a result any incomplete applications will be deleted.  If you are not able to complete and submit your PL or Annex A application by 23 July, you will need to make a new application in the new service. 

Please note: You should continue to use Application Online for operator applications in the usual way.
