Senior Center Update

Beat the Heat

As we reach the peak of summer heat, review this fact sheet from the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio for tips on keeping cool. If you are looking for assistance with high electric bills the Summer Crisis Program can help you. Learn more here and schedule a phone appointment with our local HEAP office here.

Stay cool with a sweet treat this month by visiting one of the many ice cream shops in North Olmsted. July 25 is National Hot Fudge Sundae Day! Learn more about the history of the hot fudge sundae here. Do you know which city served the first hot fudge sundae at C.C. Brown’s Ice Cream Parlor in 1906? Call in with the answer to be entered into our raffle for a gift card to Malley’s Ice Cream.

Cool off with a virtual trip to Iceland in this travel video. Average summer temperatures in Iceland are around 50 degrees and it is often daylight 24 hours a day. Visitors enjoy what is known as the Midnight Sun. Although the sun sets just before midnight the Midnight Sun occurs because of the tilt of Earth’s axis.

Hometown Highlight | Recreation Center

July is Parks and Recreation Month! Exercise in the air conditioned comfort of the North Olmsted Recreation Center or cool off in the outdoor pool. Every day, in communities across the country the people of parks and recreation are providing essential services and making their communities better places to live, work and play. We recognize their hard work annually in July during National Parks and Recreation month. The North Olmsted Parks and Recreation Department has a variety of offerings for all ages. Visit their website here to learn more.
