Indigenous Land and Food Circle this Wednesday

Hosted by Trinity Norwood of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Tribe
and Philadelphia Parks and Recreation

Philadelphia Parks and Recreation and Trinity Norwood of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Tribe would like to invite you to join us for a 1.5 hour virtual discussion as part of the Philadelphia Urban Agriculture Plan, Growing From the Root  on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM EDT.

The purpose of this meeting is to listen and document Indigenous perspectives on historical agricultural practices and future visions for achieving more equitable access to land and resources for growing food within the Philadelphia.

This event will center the voices of folks whose ancestors are Indigenous to the Lenapehoking area (including what is currently known as Philadelphia). The event is also inclusive of Indigenous identity, practitioners and seed savers. Tickets are limited, so we ask that folks allow for participants who identify with the description of this event to attend. Please RSVP here.

Feedback from this Circle will inform the policy and program recommendations of Growing From the Root. The Plan will be completed by October 2021, and we will discuss our proposals for implementation and accountability at the meeting.

The 2021 Indigenous Land and Food Circle will take place on Wednesday evening July 14th at 6pm-7:30pm. All participants will be compensated ($50) for their time and participation in this Circle. Details for the online gathering will be sent out prior to the meeting. RSVP here.

To learn more about the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Tribe and their initiatives, visit: https://nlltribe.com/about-us/. Please check the Growing from the Root website for upcoming events and Plan updates.

We hope you can join us to discuss how interconnected histories have informed experiences of cultivating food and how the City could leverage its resources to benefit Indigenous communities, and cultivate Indigenous leadership in the future of Philadelphia’s urban agriculture.
