Southminster This Week

Friends,

As the hot summer days continue and many of you head off for vacations and summer retreats, I wanted to take this opportunity to encourage you to use some of your well deserved rest and relaxation time to reconnect with your prayer life.

As you are relaxing at the beach or the river in the beauty of creation it is such a good time to give thanks for the blessings of life. As you are making some long over due visits to family and friends I hope you will have an opportunity to pray for one another and give thanks for those relationships. Even if you are just spending a little extra time at home, take a few extra moments over your morning coffee to reflect.

Prayer is just our ongoing conversation with God. Even if you don't have any flowery language God knows what is on your heart. As the author Anne Lamott writes, sometimes all we need to say is "Wow!", "Thanks.", or even "Help!" God understands.

Peace,

Pastor Caitlin

New Sermon Series- August 1st!

There are some simple phrases that we've all heard. They may even sound Christian, like something you might find in the Bible, such as:

  • Everything happens for a reason.
  • God helps those who help themselves.
  • God won’t give you more than you can handle.
  • God said it, I believe it, that settles it.
  • Love the sinner, hate the sin.

Though these statements all capture some element of truth, they fall short of the truth of the gospel in some important ways.  They can sometimes even mislead us in our understanding of God.

So join us for a new worship series for the month of August as we search for the WHOLE truth, based on Rev. Adam Hamilton’s book, Half Truths.
