Lakota Summer Institute 2021 Comes to a Close. 

The Lakota Summer Institute took place virtually last month and had over 60 participants! TLC is so grateful to the talented Lakota Language Consortium teachers that made this incredible event possible. And sends well wishes to all Lakota language learners the best of luck with their continued learning!  To everyone who helped make LSI Online 2021 a success, the TLC says "Philámayaye." Keep an eye out for more language learning opportunities to come! 

Cowlitz Youth Camp Salish Workshops 

Between July 23rd and August 20th, TLC is proud to support three Cowlitz language workshops within the Cowlitz Youth Program. The mission of the Cowlitz Youth Program is to enrich the lives of youth and the Tribe through traditions that teach respect, honor, and culture.

Update from the Stoney Nakoda Language Project

The Stoney Nakoda Language Project continues to make progress! TLC and the Stoney Education Authority have partnered up for another year to produce language learning materials to build the Stoney Nakoda language for future generations. Materials will include an online dictionary, textbooks, picture books, and more! In the coming months, materials will be getting their final revisions before publishing. Stay tuned for more updates and follow the Stoney Education Authority on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

I am Jacob, and I am an 18-year-old Crow man from Montana. I’ve spent the last four weeks at the Crow Language Consortium working on the dictionary...It should be every Crow’s responsibility to try and preserve our language because once the language is gone, it’s gone; dancing, hand games, and throwing tournaments are social events, and while those are still important our culture is so tied to language and it contains basic concepts that we can’t grasp in English, which means that to be Crow and to be in a Crow Mindset; language and cultural values must be our top priority.” - Jacob, Crow Language Consortium Summer Intern

Filled with bright illustrations and traditional storytelling, these Dakelh-Carrier picture books bring stories to life.  Each book introduces readers to vocabulary and basic sentence structure, and are great beginner books for new or young Dakelh-Carrier speakers.
