We still have a few spaces in our Museum Explorers Preschool. You can find more information and our registration form on our website. Click here! As the world reopens and children go back to school this fall, many families are struggling with separation and socialization after being home for so long. UNICEF has some great tips for parents to help make these transitions less scary

Summer Camp classes are great practice for going off to school in the fall in a low-key, fun environment! Sessions are filling up fast!! Our STEAM-themed camps are on Tuesdays through August for children 4yrs & up! Each week we will focus on one aspect of STEAM- Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. We will play games, do art projects and experiments, and have plenty of time to play in the museum! Camps for younger children will be run on Wednesday, August 4 & 11 for ages 3 to 5. Space is limited in each session, so register now!  Remember, members receive a 10% discount! Click here to: download the camp brochure | register online.

In order to provide access to all families, we want to make sure that everyone is aware of our Scholarship Fund, which provides admission to the Museum and all of its programs. Our Scholarship program also provides birthday parties and gifts for homeless and functionally homeless children. Determination is based on a family's qualification for Free/Reduced Lunch. Applications are available at the Front Desk or by emailing our Executive Director Cate Anderson

Need a place to beat the heat? It's a cool 72 degrees inside the Museum! We've even got the windows partially covered to protect our salt and fresh water tanks from the direct sunlight.  We are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am-Noon and 1-3pm. We will continue with online reservations for the foreseeable future - you are welcome to walk in and get tickets at the door, but we cannot guarantee space. The WA State Secretary of Health's mask order remains in place: All people, regardless of vaccination status, are still required to wear masks in certain places such as K-12 schools, childcare facilities, camps, and other youth settings where children are present or expected to be present.

Please remember that there are recurring events on our web calendar that are not currently happening - we look forward to bringing back favorites like Story Time, Wing It Wednesday, Kaleidoscope Play & Learn, Make It & Take It and of course Community Free Day.  We appreciate your support and cooperation as we continue to work toward fully reopening.

VROOM - Have Fun With Patterns

Name That Food: Pick three food words and make a pattern, “banana, apple, pear.” Repeat it three times together with your child. Then leave out the middle word and see if they can guess what it is? Try leaving out the first and the last word too. Add another word when this gets easy. (suggested age 4-5 years)

What your child is learning: When your child is listening to words and making patterns with you, they're creating and then using a rule. Understanding and applying rules will help them learn math concepts. When they guess what comes next, they're using their working memory.

Sky Watchers: What do you see and hear in the sky? Say, “I see a cloud. Do you see a cloud? I hear an airplane. Where is it?” As your child grows, they will start pointing to things in the sky too. Children love the game of I Spy, no matter how you play it. (suggested age birth - 5 years)

What your child is learning: When you help your child learn to look carefully at what is all around them, you’re helping them be a better observer, like a scientist. Noting what is going on is a key to learning now and in the future.
