Dear <<First Name>>,

As the heat warning is now in effect in many parts of B.C., MP Peter Julian and I have started a Caring Project. We are collecting gently used fans for seniors in Burnaby and New Westminster. The fans will be given to BNH South House & Seniors Services Society. We have started off great with the donations so far from our caring constituents, so let's continue the momentum to support our seniors in need!

Vax for BC launches to get more people vaccinated

The next few weeks is a great opportunity for everyone not yet fully vaccinated to take advantage of the number of Vax for BC opportunities throughout B.C.!

Beginning on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, and lasting throughout the month of August, community events, vax vans, and mobile clinics will be up and running in dozens of communities in B.C. to make it even easier for you and your loved ones to get your 1st and 2nd dose if you haven't already!

In Burnaby, there is Christine Sinclair Community Centre and more which you can find here: http://www.gov.bc.ca/VaxForBC

UVic engineering & computer science expansion to support more students

With the growing demand for engineering and computer science programs, my Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training, and the University of Victoria (UVic) are building new state-of-the-art learning facilities and expanding programs. Together, we believe this will enable more students to work toward high-impact solutions in fields such as environmental sustainability and healthcare technologies. I believe these youths will build a more sustainable home for us all!

Employment opportunities that are currently in demand

The pandemic has disrupted employment across B.C. and has disproportionately affected vulnerable and underrepresented British Columbians, including youth.

My ministry announces an investment in the program "Blazerunners" which is an employment and skills training program empowering youth aged 15-30 to take control of their futures, gain valuable job and life skills, and find new employment opportunities.

Shoreline cleanup and municipalities empowered to ban single-use plastics
As British Columbians, we deeply care about protecting our marine ecosystems and shorelines, as well as protecting the health and well-being of the planet and future generations of British Columbians. Through the NDP's  Clean Coast and Clean Waters (CCCW) initiative, we have helped protect and restore B.C.'s marine and shoreline environment by removing more than 425 tonnes of debris, such as plastics and other types of pollution that is harmful to both marine life and the communities along B.C.'s coast.  The CCCW initiative is part of the CleanBC Plastics Action Plan.  Its goal is to reduce plastic pollution.  Our government has also amended a regulation under the Community Charter to allow local governments to ban single-use plastics.  This allows local governments to support their citizens by quickly reducing pollution caused by plastics.

Attractions get support to anchor their communities

Many people and businesses across B.C. rely on anchor attractions and tour bus companies to draw visitors to their communities.  Through B.C.’s Major Anchor Attractions Program, more than 80 anchor attractions and tour bus operators in B.C. will receive direct support for their recovery from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This will support people and jobs in the tourism industry and will make sure our province remains a world-class tourism destination. I hope you and your family are staying safe during this time and I really recommend everyone to explore B.C. on this long weekend!
