July 2021 Updates

Hello Wayne County!

This month we really focused on Our Community and this newsletter reflects what is happening around the county. Please share with your family, friends, and colleagues. And encourage them to sign up.

OUR COMMUNITY

Boys and Girls Club Expanding

The Boys and Girls Club is expanding into Western Wayne at the Pershing Administration building. We are excited for this move. Yearly memberships are just $15 for kids ages 6-18 and they hope to open the site by the first day of school. And they are looking for workers! For more information, contact Alicia Painter at apainter@bgcrichmond.org.
Wayne County Cares: Building Resiliency in our Communities

We convened the second Wayne County Cares: Building Resiliency in our Communities event at Richmond Civic Hall this month; more than 80 participants attended. This event expanded upon trauma-informed practices and provided some great resources for employers to think about. It also expanded on how we can all build upon resiliency. Stay tuned for more information.
Main Street Awarded Grants
The Wayne County Foundation, via Forward Wayne County, recently awarded four local Main Street organizations beautification and improvement grants. Those awarded:
  • Cambridge City Main Street, $7,000 for economic vitality improvement: historical signage repair, building façade repair, etc.
  • Main Street Centerville, $7,000 for design and promotion improvements: commercial planters and an art mural.
  • Heart of Hagerstown, $7,000 for design improvement: streetscape, multi-seasonal banners, trash receptacles, etc.
  • Main Street Richmond, dba Center City Development Corporation, $7,000 for design improvement: accessible rear access points for businesses impacted by Phase 2 of the Loop project.
We also want to congratulate Cambridge City Main Street on being named one of the five finalists for OCRA’s inaugural PreservING pilot program. They have an exciting site visit on August 9th!

Indiana Farm Bureau Speed Test

We need you again Wayne County. Take a moment to do the Indiana Speed Test at infb.org/speedtest in your home. You may recognize this test, but Wayne County is now partnering with INFB and several partners across the state to document the need for broadband access to unserved and underserved communities in Indiana. So please take this speed test again!
