The news is slowly beginning to spread that there a guy who has come from the wilderness, waded into the water at the Jordan and as he lifted his head the power of God’s spirit was present in ways the witnesses had never experienced before.  The authority and ministry of Jesus was established in this holy movement of the waters.  Jesus began making his way around the communities on the coast of the Sea of Galilee and what happens next is one of my favorite moments. Jesus has been slowly building relationships and one day he stands on the shore as two brothers are putting their nets into the lake simply, turning to them he says to Simon and Andrew "come and follow me.”

The brothers begin a life of following Jesus, apprenticing themselves to how Jesus lives his life. It is in this movement that we are reminded that Jesus sees us for who we are and invites us to join our life to his as we cast our nets into the world. Each of us have heard this calling from a unique perspective which leads us to live out our calling in distinctive ways as disciples of Jesus.

Beginning this Sunday we will begin a journey of exploring how we have heard the calling to "come and follow me," who we are as individual followers of Jesus as well who we are as a community of followers through a study called Gospel Discipleship.  Gospel Discipleship will help us to appreciate the different perspectives in which we all hear the ‘call to come and follow me’ and how that impacts who we are as disciples of Jesus.

If you haven’t taken the Gospel Discipleship Assessment to learn how you hear and live out the call to "come and follow me" they are available at the entrances of the sanctuary or can be found HERE:
