Project Names

Understanding the HMIS Project Naming Convention will help you decipher the information on a client’s enrollment page. The last segment of the project name contains the project type, which can be used to help you learn more about the client's prior living situations. HMIS projects are named as follows:

[Agency][Funding Source][Project Descriptor][Project Type]

For example SSO = Supportive Services Only, TH = Transitional Housing, and ES = Emergency Shelter. You can access the Project Type Key below to learn more about the various project types in our community.

PSH Projects

As a reminder, Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) projects are required to record a housing move-in date. Per HUD this is the date the client moved into permanent housing, essentially this is the date the client began physically living in the permanent housing unit. If you encounter a client who returns to homelessness after being housed with your project (housing move in date has been entered) and the project will continue working to rehouse the client, these steps must be completed for data accuracy:
  • Close the PSH enrollment that has the move in date
  • Create a new PSH enrollment
*** If you encounter an error message, please reach out to the HMIS team for assistance.***

If you would like more information, please visit the HMIS Data Standards Manual > Housing Move-in Date
