Golf fundraiser

After last year's success, our golf classic is back again this year.

To help fund the Labour weekend sevens tournament, we're hosting the annual golf classic at Manor Park Golf Sanctuary on Saturday 11 September.

Gameplay

Play 18 holes or a 9-hole scramble in teams of four. 9-hole scramble means playing from the farthest-hit ball on your team. There will also be prizes for longest drive, and closest to the pin.

Payment and sponsorship

If you’d like to sponsor a hole, you can transfer $100 to:
W/HV GFHA
02-0610-0041088-00
and add the reference: “Sponsor”

If you’d like to play 18 holes, you can transfer $50 (or $200 for a team) to:
W/HV GFHA
02-0610-0041088-00
and add reference: “firstname18” or “teamname18”

To play just 9 holes, you can transfer $35 (or $140 for a team) to:
W/HV GFHA
02-0610-0041088-00

So mark the date in your calendar and in the meantime, get down to the driving range for some practice. If you have any questions, contact Ronan O'Malley at events@wellingtongaa.com.

Training schedule

With a mere 96 days 'til the Labour weekend sevens action, our hurlers took back to the camán in Ian Galloway Park (IGP) on Tuesday 20 July. Speaking to The Green & Gold last week, player-coach Patrick Dempsey said the first sessions are, "going grand and numbers aren't bad."

Women's football will commence at IGP on Tuesday 17 August; men's football will start two days later on Thursday 19 August; while our camógs start on Saturday 4 September.

The training schedule for all codes leading up to Labour weekend can be found through the link below. As always, newcomers are more than welcome.

Mike Fahy Memorial Cup

The Mike Fahy Memorial Cup will be a seven-a-side soccer tournament run on Monday 4 October from 6-10pm at Boyd-Wilson field. It's being organised by Better Football and Super Paddy's FC in aid of Lifeline. There will be a group stage followed by knockout games.

The entry cost per team will be $200 with the full entry fee going to Super Paddy's sponsors, Lifeline. This is an excellent initiative by Super Paddy's and Better Football. Hopefully we can get a Wellington/Hutt Valley GFHA team playing on the night. There's still time to register and it can be done through the link below.

Competition updates

Feis/national seven-a-side competition

Wellington is now confirmed to host the Feis/national seven-a-side competition on Labour weekend (23-24 October 2021). It is still to be confirmed whether the Feis will be taking place this year. If it won't be going ahead, the competition will resemble last year's Labour weekend tournament.

New Zealand junior championships

The New Zealand junior championships will be hosted by Naomh Críostóir (Hamilton) on Saturday 4 of September at Marist Rugby Club, Hamilton.

Teams from across the motu – including Wellington/Hutt Valley – will be participating in the one-day tournament. You can keep up to date with the tournament through Naomh Críostóir’s Facebook event page.

New Zealand championships

Along with the upcoming junior championships, the Hamilton club will also host the 2022 New Zealand championships. The two-day tournament is pencilled in for 26 and 27 March 2022 at Marist Rugby Club, Hamilton. Again, you can keep up to date with the tournament through Naomh Críostóir’s Facebook event page.

Entertainment Book

The Entertainment Book is an awesome way to get great deals on dining, shopping, travel, hotels and experiences. The most popular reason to buy the book are for the 2-for-1 and 25-percent-off deals at a huge number of Wellington restaurants.

By signing up, you're also supporting the club as we receive a small portion of each membership. You can search for the "Entertainment New Zealand"  app to check out the deals.

If you're interested, you can buy the book through the link below.
