Worshipping With Us

With the agreement from each of our 6 PCC's we are delighted that we are now open for gathered public worship.  We will continue to offer a PhoneChurch service each Sunday and our reopening is phased in line with the Governments 'Roadmap'. We will be continuing with our simplified rota until September.

To join in with PhoneChurch simply call  03300 945 940
then at the prompt Room number: 55017514 #

As more folk are joining us for gathered worship, the printed copies of PewNews will be available at the Sunday services and then delivered during the week to those who have requested them.  We hope this will save time, effort, and expenditure.  Please do let us know if you no longer require a posted/delivered copy.  The Benefice Magazine will be restarting with a September issue.

PhoneChurch is working well, but please remember it is live and unless you mute the microphone on your phone everyone can hear anything that is happening at your end of the line.  We are still learning how to best use this system and whilst responses during the service are working well, communal singing is causing problems - so for the moment please just listen to the music as it plays rather than singing along.

For the liturgy/service booklet please follow the link for the relevant service.

As above to join in simply call  03300 945 940
then at the prompt Room number: 55017514 #
and use Guest PIN: 3885 #

With Step 4 of the Government Roadmap has come a relaxation of Covid-19 restrictions.
Bishop Nick and his colleagues have written a letter to the churches of the Diocese which can be viewed here.
In the letter, he encourages us to look to the needs of our neighbours and to take a cautious approach to re-opening

Our approach here in Lower Wensleydale for the moment is

Masks are encouraged when moving around and when the building is crowded.
Spacing out by using alternate pews is a simple way to help others.
The Peace will continue to be shared from where we stand.
Communion also continues in the same format as we have used during the restrictions with the Priest bringing the consecrated wafers to the congregation.
Hospitality at the end of services continues to be suspended, however, we hope to be able to reintroduce this in September.
Test & Trace continues in line with best practice advice.

Come and join us on Zoom for a time of Lectio Divina

Now on Tuesday afternoons at 16:00
Lectio Divina is a contemplative way of reading the Bible. It dates back to the early centuries of the Christian Church and is a way of praying the scriptures that leads us further into God's word. It is listening with the 'ear' of the heart that allows scripture to speak to us in new ways while also deepening our relationship with the Living God.

Lisle's Limericks

Rev'd Lisle has offered us the following topical reflections for this season.

“In the wilderness our fathers were fed
with manna, God's gift, a miracle bread.
     To believe you're divine
     Jesus give us a sign.”
“Coming from heaven, I'm life giving bread.”

“Drink from me and you'll no longer thirst
dwell in me, in my love be immersed.
     For whatever the cost
     you will never be lost
as the will of God can not be reversed.”

“Is this not Joseph's son?” They complained.
“Coming from heaven seems rather strained.”
     “Now partake of my flesh
     and your life you'll refresh
with life eternal to be entertained.”

Hearing this some no longer did follow.
“So who will be with me on the morrow?”
     Jesus asked the twelve,
     who examined themselves.
Peter replied, “Who else can we follow?”

Trinity 9, 10, 11 & 12 John 6.30-59

One of Lile's Limericks has now been set to sound and is very much worth listening to - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JppbkElKhJ4&feature=youtu.be

Liberia News

Simon & GraceSimon and Grace Stretton-Downes
Simon is a dentist leading a team at a clinic at the Eternal Love Winning All (ELWA) Hospital in Monrovia. Grace is a nurse and will support Simon as well as seeking God's direction for her role in the mission field.  The couple are sent by St Gregory's Church, Crakehall and are working for Serving In Mission (SIM)

Rosemary Gaven is our local contact and keeps us update with the news they send.  Simon & Grace are taking a well-deserved break, please pray for rest and refreshment.

And Finally

From Rev'd Chris

And so we begin again - almost.
Tomorrow I will once again break the Lammas Loaf at St Patrick's, just like I did on my first Sunday as your new Priest-in-Charge 4 years ago.
Much is still the same - God's Love and his Grace abound - the harvest has begun but much is still to be gathered before Harvest Home.
The same can be said both for us individually and as a group of Parishes.
We became a United Benefice on Easter Day 2018 and have grown together strongly since then.  However, we face many challenges; Spiritual, Missional, Financial, Structural and Organisational.  It is a great joy that the vestry and hospitality project at Crakehall is now nearing completion and I very much look forward to our special service on St Gregory's Day as we give thanks for all the hard work that has gone into the project and ask God's blessing on the continued ministry of that place.  In September I hope to say more about a review of the governance structure of the six parishes and how we may be able to ease the considerable administrative and organizational burden we currently face.

But for the moment enjoy the summer and rest in God's presence as we break bread together...
