NOTES - JULY 2021

In this issue:

Welcoming a New Member on Board

We are so pleased to welcome Kelly Lewis to our Board of Directors. Kelly has enjoyed a long career in the retail field working first in her family’s grocery store, later owning a card and gift boutique, and more recently serving as the buyer and manager of the St. Boniface Hospital Gift Shop.

Kelly enjoys attending live theatre, dance, and music performances and spending time at Riding Mountain National Park. As a child Kelly loved to visit the Cornish Library which was near her home. She feels strongly that libraries can bring people together and loves how books help us travel through time, visit new places, and learn about other people’s lives. Kelly hopes her experience in fund raising and event planning can be of benefit to The Friends of the Winnipeg Public Library.

Puppet Success Story

We were pleased to provide financial support for a quartet of popular puppeteering sessions for children this summer. Each session was fully booked with 25 participants.  Prior to the sessions parents picked up a puppet-making kit for their child.

Kits were distributed at fourteen different library branches and children from across the city participated in the four Zoom events. The children helped provide sound effects as Carrie Costello from Castlemoon Theatre performed The Paperbag Princess by author Robert Munsch. Carrie then provided guidance for participants as they made their own puppets and used them to retell parts of the story.

Karin Borland, Administrative Coordinator of Youth Services, expressed her gratitude for our donation which helped to make the virtual puppet program such a success.

Donations

Since we are unable to hold fundraising events at this time would you consider making a donation to Friends of the Winnipeg Public Library so we can continue providing support to valuable projects like the summer puppet workshops?

We will let you know when we are able to accept donations for the next sale.
