Man About Town Monthly Newsletter

It’s good to talk, it’s great to listen!

We’ve been in the news this last month thanks to the unfaltering energy of Gareth Dakin and Geraldine Montgomerie at the Leeds Arts Health and Wellbeing Network @LeedsAHWN We were very grateful to be featured in this blog and it’s been a huge help in spreading the word about our events.

Walking Events

Walking has been a great way to discover all the brilliant green spaces we have around us in Leeds and has been especially vital during lockdown where we’ve been unable to meet indoors as a group. This month we’ll be taking in the following:

Sunday 1st August Meanwood Park. Meeting in the carpark opposite the cafe at 10:30am. Parking can be tricky so come early if you can.

Sunday 15th Gledhow Woods. Parking is on the road at the Woodland Lane entrance to Chapel Allerton Park. From the cars we then walk through Chapel Allerton Park to Gledhow Woods.

Sunday 29th August Gotts Park, Armley. There’s talk of a beach in Armley and some of us claim to have seen it…this walk will prove the fact either way!

Ukelele group

Meeting every Wednesday from 11am til 1pm at the Woodhouse Moor Allotments. The group is for anyone who would like to join in no matter what level you are at.

Following our Ukulele group we now run a singing group alongside Ian from the West Leeds Mens Network. We’ve been working on songs by the Specials, Johnny Cash and have lots more in the pipeline. Please come along to Broadlea Community Centre, LS13 2SN from 1:30pm every Wednesday

Photography group

Photography has been another great way of exploring the green spaces of Leeds. No special equipment is needed, a phone is fine and we have tablets you can use if you dont have one. This month we’ll be meeting on the following Mondays:

Monday 2nd August Calverly meeting at the Thornhill Arms from 2pm

Golf group

Golf has been a new one for us and following a few sessions at the driving range we’ve taken to doing a 9 holer in Kirkstall, we’ve been amazed at our progress and first time out didn’t lose a single ball!. It’s great being outdoors and is pretty good exercise phyiscally and mentally. Come and have a go!

Monday 9th August City Golf, Kirkstall, LS4 2AW. 10:30am

Vinyl Picnic

We’ve set up home in Gotts Park for our vinyl picnics this summer. We always have loads of vinyl so don’t worry if you don’t have any. It’s chat and tunes and usually snacks! Meeting in the carpark at Gotts Park Golf Club from 10:30am

Sunday 8th August 10:30am

Sunday 22nd August 10:30am
