Winston-Salem Writers and 40+ Stage are proud to announce that the 2021 Winston-Salem 10-Minute Play Festival will be presented August 20 and 21 in Hanesbrands Theatre at 7:30 p.m. The plays were selected from playwrights across North Carolina and will be produced in collaboration with 40+ Stage. This is the tenth anniversary of Winston-Salem Writers producing plays by N.C. playwrights.

Admission is $15 and tickets can be purchased at the door or in advance beginning August 1 online at intothearts.org/events-info

Fall Opportunity at 4 on 4th
Bookmarks is scheduling authors to speak at the fall edition of 4 on 4th, four authors reading from their work on the 4th Wednesday of each month. Bookmarks Festival

Winston-Salem Writers is now accepting both volunteers and writer applications for the WSW booth at Bookmarks Festival on September 25.  The booth will be open for two writers to promote their works every hour, from the opening of the Festival to the end of the day on September 25. Poetry in Plain Sight
Thanks to so many North Carolina poets, the NCPS Poetry In Plain Sight has been successful in reducing our cache of vintage poetry posters. Since our inventory of PIPS posters in January was over a 1000, the reserve is now around 650. And we sell more every month. Poets and poetry lovers have purchased many posters, plus we have donated others to public schools in the state.  Sam Barbee, who is in charge of the project, has disposed of a few in poor condition and can assure all the posters are in good condition, and some are pristine. Remember, you can purchase any 2 posters for $10.00, plus additional posters (up to 8) for $1.00 each.

Open Mic Night
Whether you're a writer or a reader, beginner or experienced, member or not, you are invited to attend Open Mic via Zoom on the first Tuesday of each month. Join us on Tuesday, August 3, beginning at 6:45 p.m. to sign up to read and 7 p.m. for readings, and enjoy listening to the many talented writers in our midst. From poetry to fiction to sci-fi to nonfiction to personal essays, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Come share your work or just support local writers at Open Mic!

The Word is Out Open Mic Poetry
Join us online via Zoom on the last Tuesday of the month for The Word Is Out Open Mic Poetry aka TWIO. Our next event is Tuesday, August 31 from 6:45 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. This month’s feature writer is Renie Andrews and the optional theme is "Why We Need Stories." Open Mic readers are welcomed to read three to five minutes of their own or others' work following the feature. We share our truths, jokes, and fish stories in verse, song, or prose. Image rich and powerful, this is a community of writers who meet to support and appreciate each other. The word is out!

The WSW Script Group will be taking a break during July and August. We will resume meeting—virtually or in person or a combination-- in September. Open Calls for Submissions

The November Kauai Writers Conference is ON and open for registration. With its large and distinguished faculty of authors and agents gathered in an idyllic beachfront setting, the Kauai Writers Conference is widely regarded as the premier event in the U.S. for writers to hone their craft and make the connections they need for successful publication. There are sixteen master classes on all aspects of writing and publishing, and individual pitch and critique sessions with a dozen literary agents. A 20% discount is offered to members of certain writers groups including Winston-Salem Writers. To get this discount, be sure to enter WG789 at the bottom of the check-out page.
 
Club Plum seeks literary horror for their October 2021 issue. Please send your dark, surreal, horrific, and strange flash fiction, prose poetry, hybrid forms, and art to Club Plum for the October 2021 issue by September 30.  

 
Poetry In Plain Sight is open to any poet who is a current resident of North Carolina. Submissions will be accepted August 1st through September 12th, and are free to paid-up adult members of the NC Poetry Society; $5 for non-members by Paypal on the Poetry In Plain Sight webpage. A donation to the program is an option on the same button.

Each poet can submit one time in the submission cycle to ncps.pips.sb@gmail.comFormat 1-3 poems into one document, doc or docx file type.  Mailed submissions will not be considered. Although there is no limitation on theme or subject matter, all submissions should be suitable for public viewing. 
 
The judges for the 2022 poems will be Malaika King Albrecht, Crystal Simone Smith, and Scott Owens.
