A Mid-Summer Heads Up Concerning Critical Political Reform Initiatives Now Being Debated In
Ohio, Cincinnati, And Washington -July 20, 2021
( by Bill Woods for StreetVibes)

The following piece offers a mid-summer heads up concerning critical current political reform issues that people concerned about the health of democracy need to be aware of. Voting rights
and redistricting deserve public attention in Columbus, and here in Cincinnati, a task force established by City Council to address recent corruption has proposed several reforms aimed at preventing the corrupting influence of political donations. Meanwhile, a diverse coalition of advocacy groups dedicates the summer to promoting the Voting Rights Act in the U.S. Senate.

For HIV Plus Magazines new short video series, "The Talk," they connected with several people living with #HIV to ask them how to fight the stigma around having sexual health conversations and how talking to a health care provider does not have to be awkward or uncomfortable after getting an HIV diagnosis.

People who are living with HIV are often worried about their future and are unsure of what they can or should ask their medical professional about their HIV status and treatment regimen.
Feeling confident, finding a doctor you can trust and normalizing conversations when talking about your HIV status and health are actions you can take to live and thrive with HIV.

The Delta variant of the virus that causes COVID-19 is surging in the United States. New data show Delta is different than past versions of the virus; it is much more contagious. While rare, some vaccinated people can get Delta in a breakthrough infection and may be contagious.

Unvaccinated people: get vaccinated and wear a mask until you do.

Everyone in areas of substantial or high transmission should wear a mask, even if they are vaccinated.

Guidance for schools:

"Coming alongside renewed calls from the CDC for mask wearing, even by the vaccinated, the Ohio Department of Health laid out ways in which K-12 schools should be preventing COVID-19 in the upcoming school year.

With no requirement for masks included in the recommendations, announced on Monday, the Ohio Department of Health is counting on partnerships with local health departments, awareness of the science of COVID-19 and promotion of the vaccine as strategies to keep spread of the pandemic out of schools this fall."

All of Hamilton County, including the City of Cincinnati have been identified as an area of “substantial spread” of COVID-19 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
With this, Hamilton County Public Health and the CDC recommends:
- Everyone, including those fully-vaccinated, wear a mask in public indoor settings.
- Fully-vaccinated people might choose to wear a mask regardless of the level of transmission, particularly if they are immunocompromised or at increased risk for severe disease from COVID-19, or if they have someone in their household who is immunocompromised, at increased risk of severe disease or not fully vaccinated.
- Fully-vaccinated people who have a known exposure to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 should be tested 3-5 days after exposure, and wear a mask in public indoor settings for 14 days or until they receive a negative test result.
- Universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to schools, regardless of vaccination status.
Listen to Legal Aid Managing Attorney talk to WCPO morning anchor Julie O'Neill about the continuing evictions crisis. He noted, "While plenty of rental assistance funding is available, the process is taking longer than anyone would like due to the high demand. Please have patience. We and our partners are working hard to get applications processed and funds sent to landlords."
Horacio llegó a los Estados Unidos después de que se vio obligado a cerrar su negocio en México.
“Me llena, ya sabes, ser una buena persona, hacer lo que puedo para ayudar a la gente.”
Horace arrived in the U.S. after he was forced to close his business in Mexico.
′′ It fills me, you know, being a good person, doing what I can to help people."
"Our shelter is always full....What we see is that the young people we serve need someone to walk side by side with them, connect them to resources, and set some goals. It's about giving them a pathway. We're always building youth up to walk that path." Bonita Campbell, Vice President of Homeless Youth Services. Thank you, HOME of Greater Cincinnati for a great conversation.

Domestic Violence is something that no child should ever have to endure. Child victims of any age may develop symptoms of what is called 'Post-traumatic Stress Disorder'. They may get nightmares, flashbacks, become very jumpy, and have headaches and physical pains. Children dealing with domestic violence and abuse may also often do badly in school, resulting in life-long trouble.
It has to end here and now.
