Updated Block Bookings for Aug & Sep

Please see below the times for club competitions throughout August and September. John Eade is in dialogue with the course management to ensure we have sufficient times to accommodate our winter calendar, especially at weekends.

Note: I'm not responsible for the 'Minuet' spelling error!

Dates for your Diary

A reminder that Captains' Day is Saturday 4th September so watch this space for further announcements and details

The Council has traditionally hosted Chairman's Day in September but due to uncertainty around restrictions, it won't be taking place this year. It was earmarked for Friday 17th September and as a possible alternative event, we are in discussions with Mark Young and Farnham Park about having a match, potentially Ryder Cup style.

We could be looking at up to 28 players per club to participate so please give some thought if you're interested to play.

The golf will be followed by lunch prepared by Luigi and a raffle to raise money for the respective Captains' charities.

I will send out further communication once we have information regarding the cost and format.

Good Golf Reminders

Now that we're back to normal rules and regulation on the golf course, I just wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone to follow good course etiquette.

Please ensure that  you rake the bunkers after playing out of them. While the general condition of the sand traps is less than optimal, let's try not to make them even worse.

Please replace divots and repair pitch marks on the greens. If you're good enough to land an approach shot on the putting surface, please be good enough to repair the damage.

Pace of Play
I'm getting increasingly exasperated at how slow some of our matches are around the course. Every weekend I witness groups losing pace on the players in front without any attempt to speed up.

IF YOU LOSE A HOLE ON THE GROUP IN FRONT, LET THE GROUP BEHIND PLAY THROUGH.

Common excuses (with my responses):
  • We're playing in a match so we have priority - Allow me to prescribe a dose of reality: you're playing in the monthly medal at South Bucks, not the final round of The Open at St Andrews.
  • We're not holding up the group behind us - You should be looking to keep pace with the group in front as opposed to winning gold medal in a snail marathon.
  • We had a [lady/novice/high handicapper/insert description as applicable] in our group so couldn't go any faster. Once again, if you can't speed up, kindly get out of the way and don't hold up the rest of the course. It's everyone's leisure time, not just yours.
In my experience, the biggest factor in slow play isn't demographic or golfing ability...it's plain and simply one of attitude and behaviour.

Please, let's try to improve our individual and collective behaviours.

Here are a couple of links on how to improve your place of play:
