16 August 2021

From today, Monday 16 August, rules around self-isolation are changing. If you have been fully vaccinated, or you are under the age of 18, you no longer need to self-isolate after simply being in close contact with somebody with coronavirus.

Instead of self-isolating, those who are double-jabbed as well as all under 18s identified as close contacts of positive COVID-19 cases should get a free PCR test as soon as possible, which you can do by visiting nhs.uk/Get-Tested.

The new rules are applicable to those who have received both doses of the coronavirus vaccine (provided the second dose was at least 14 days prior to the contact) due to the protection provided by the vaccine.

Those who have not yet been vaccinated, or only received one dose of the vaccine, need to continue to self-isolate if they have been in close contact with somebody with coronavirus.

For more information visit www.gov.uk/coronavirus.
Alongside PCR testing for anyone with symptoms or who is a close contact, everyone is encouraged to take up the government's offer of free, twice-weekly rapid testing to find additional cases among people without symptoms.

Visit www.kingston.gov.uk/rapidtesting to get your tests.

Even though most coronavirus restrictions have been lifted, we still all have
our own very important part to play in reducing the spread. Even if you have been double-vaccinated, you can still develop coronavirus and pass it on to other people.

Where possible, try to meet outside or open a window to let the fresh air in. By continuing to wear a face covering in crowded indoor spaces, washing your hands regularly, and keeping a safe distance from others, you are
also helping to reduce the spread - and potentially saving a life.

Grab a jab!

If you haven't had your vaccine yet, it's not too late! You can either book online, or visit one of the walk-in vaccination sessions in and around the borough.

This week there are two Pfizer vaccine walk-in clinics in Kingston.
  • Hawks Road Health Clinic, Kingston upon Thames. Everyday this week until Saturday 21 August 2021, 8.30am-6.45pm. This event is open to those aged 16 and 17, as well as adults under 40.
  • Boots Pharmacy, Union Street. Monday 16 August-Wednesday 18 August only, 8:45am-12:30pm & 1:30pm to 5:15pm each day. This event is open to those aged 18+.
No need to book - simply walk in and grab a jab!

Latest information on all walk-in vaccination events happening across the borough and surrounding areas is updated regularly at www.kingston.gov.uk/vaccine
